I know this is a common refrain about Rachel Carson, but there is actually more to the story.  Correlation does not equal causation.  DDT was banned in the USA, not throughout the world.  The main cause of the deaths of millions was due to the world's overuse of DDT with the ultimate result that the mosquitoes in those areas adapted to become resistant to the pesticide.  There are still those spreading the idea that Rachel Carson caused these deaths.  There are also many other articles stating the rest of the story.  Just type, "Is it true that Rachel Carson killed millions?" in your search engine of choice.

There’s also other articles contradicting your story. Just type in the search engine of your choice

Here's what I got back when I typed in Search engine of my choice ;)

What is Search with Engine of your choice? According to computer security researchers, Search with Engine of your choice is a PUP (potentially unwanted program) from the category of Browser hijackers. Typically, browser hijackers make changes to the default homepage and search engine of user web-browsers, making it difficult to change them back.

DDT saved millions of lives before the mosquitoes started morphing. Everything morphs. That’s we take vaccines all the time. DDT did its job, let’s make another mosquito killer...I’m all for it.

They are easy to kill after they've hatched.

And an oil slick over the water keeps them.from hatching in the first place.

The "chemicals" we need to control mosquitoes already exist.  But environmental scientists say that if we use them in a certain way then we should be fined or imprisoned.

Mitch, not everybody has agendas, but most people believe the people they want to believe.  Your default position seems to always be to believe one side.  My default position is usually to believe the other side.  But at some point, you have to read or listen to both sides and make an informed decision.  In this case, I think the real science is on the side that banning DDT in the U.S. was on balance a good thing, and I've read both sides.

I think you’re right about banning DDT in the US. I also think that over in Africa it’s a completely different story. Some people in my church go on Missionary trips to Burkina Faso in West Africa. It was one of the worst places for malaria. The hospitals in Africa are swollen with malaria cases. Something needs to be done.

Oil works on ponds for sure, but a large leaf can hold enough water  for mosquitoes to hatch.

What those people need is "herd Immunity" to the disease.

I put a splash of oil and/or gear lube in my test tank, and it keeps the mosquitoes from hatching in it. But oddly enough it doesn't keep the frogs from hatching and growing just fine. And frogs are pretty sensitive to pollution.
