Johnsfolly Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 We have been planning a trip to take Livie to snorkel some spots in the FL Keys. Due to deadlines on staff performance reviews and client conferences ar work this trip has had three different sets of dates. Now the time has come. We couldn'tafford the wagon Queen so loaded up our Toyota version of the family truckster and headed south. 099d1a89-a844-4f1d-a0b9-d28dee14dc6b.mp4 With our theme music we drove to our first stop, Savannah GA to visit my aunt and stepmother. Greated with thunderstorms, a tornado about 30 miles away and heavy rains. We'll have to see what fish want to play today. Daryk Campbell Sr, FishnDave, snagged in outlet 3 and 2 others 5

Quillback Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 Sounds like a great vacation! Have you ever fished for tarpon? One of these days I'm going to head to FL to do some tarpon fishing. Johnsfolly and Daryk Campbell Sr 1 1

They fight like nothing I’ve ever hooked. My buddy just caught a 100 plus pounder last week in Stuart fl. My oldest friend has caught several 150 pound class on fly. His were in biscayne bay. Won't turn one down if we get one to bite. snagged in outlet 3 and Quillback 2

Johnsfolly Posted April 28, 2021 Author Posted April 28, 2021 Sunday's Plan while in Savannah was to get in a little fishing and to visit with family. I wanted to get Livie a chance at her 100th life list species and we were targeting dollar sunfish. I caught my first in Chatham CO Wetlands preserve ponds just outside of Savannah. I had luck with catching them near brush. We got an early start and got to the pond ready to go. Rigged up one rod with a trout magnet under a float and the second with a #20 hook and float. There were lots of mosquitofish around the grass and brush at the first spot. The #20 was too large for some of the mosquitofish. Livie was getting no love on the trout magnet. I saw a off colored mosquitofish and switched the trout magnet rod to a #26 tanago setup. Livie took over the #20 hook and float. She was dropping the bait around the edge of the brush and landed her first mosquitofish of the year. When she was scooping water for the photobag she scooped up a juvenile fish. Have no idea what it may be. Any thoughts would be appreciated. May just be a juvenile dollar sunfish. After she released the fry, I was able to land a couple of mosquitofish just getting them out of the way of the dalmation fish. Finally got it to bite and in the bag 😁. She got several bites at the edge of brush, but no hook sets then nothing. Next edge. Same deal. No fish. I tried and got the same response. We moved to another spot and got similar results. I went to scout out a couple of other spots that had an opening down to the water and brush in the water. I found a pile of pine branches and Livie got a solid bite and hooks set on her 100th Life list species, a dollar sunfish!! Now it was dad's turn. I missed a bite or two then got a hook set. It came off the line as I was trying to get a hold of the fish. Livie was none too impressed. No more bite at that spot. Time to move. I fished another spot and only had one fish follow the bait. Next spot I threw the hail mary and made a cast out beyond the weed line and got bit immediately. I also had my dollar 🙂. Though we were warned we did not see any alligators on this trip like i did the year before. Back at the house we tried for coppernose bluegill or bass and got no love. Still had a successful day!
