fishinwrench Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Growing up, our driveway was 74 yards long and lined on one side with gooseberry bushes. If I never eat another gooseberry for the rest of my life, that would be just fine. It would also be great to never get shot in the middle of the back with one from a slingshot either. 😵
oneshot 1 Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Got a plan. Mow between what plants I have. Lay the Plants down, water them and let them take root. oneshot Daryk Campbell Sr 1
MOPanfisher Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 Heck I am planning to mow mine off as there are several dead canes and let them come back on their own. Never been hit with a gooseberry but sure had some welts from green grapes, ahhh friends.

We never "put anybody's eye out", but them suckers will leave a welt!
slothman Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 For me it was cotton bolls. We had a cotton field up against our yard as a kid and we used to throw the cotton bolls at each other. About the size of a walnut and pretty hard/firm when they are still green. Not quite as bad as getting hit with a rock, but worse than getting hit with a dirt clod. fishinwrench 1
DADAKOTA Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Green persimmons were good for throwing. Probably should not have launched a covert operation on the man painting his birdhouse from a step ladder. What seemed funny at the time was no longer funny when we were tracked down at our tree fort and escorted home by the local pd. BilletHead 1

Daryk Campbell Sr Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 We had what we called milk duds. They grew on fences, and had a pod full of silky threads. Other than that we threw bricks. I'm a city boy. Never heard of Gooseberries until a few years ago when BilletHead was posting on making gooseberry jam. We ate the wild blackberries that the birds didnt get to first.
