KVD is simply worn down. I just can't get my head around Ultra Fast cranking with a 5.3 when you can get more speed on minimal handle turns with a faster reel.  And for that matter not Kill yourself. I can throw an A-rig all day and not be as worn out as he is and I'm in my middle 60's.

I just don't understand the physics of it.

Jordan Lee yesterday Was turning even faster, but he is younger.

It’s like trying to ride a 10 speed bike up a hill in 7th gear. More revolutions for first, but not as much torque required...pick your poison

Maybe they should design a reel with a super big handle to make up for it

It’s going to be mid to low 80’s Monday Thru Wednesday at Dayton with extreme humidity. Can KVD at 54 years old fish at that pace with that pressure those 3 days?

10 years ago no problem.  I think now he is going to have to find another pattern.   To tell you the truth, I was a bit worried watching him in period 3. He was breathing very hard and really in pain on every cast.   It was 86 out there today.   At times it was painful to watch.

As Jeff said EE was deep cranking, but pretty much the way we were all taught to do it, lots  of pause and sweeps after he cranked the bait down.

I think if he some how does not beat out EE and get a day break, the big boys will run him down in the knockout round.

To many of those young stud off shore electronic wizards in both groups that he really does not have much separation on, including Ehlier, Connell, Lee, and probably our winner Wheeler

He sure had a good day for us mature fisherman today however.

I have read that most of these guys deep crank with 5:3.1 and the ones that don't do that do it with a speed in the 6 range.  That was new to me that David Fritts would use a reel that fast.  I use as slow of a reel as I can get away with on those big cranks, but I also have to crank the hell out of it to keep up with it if moving down a bank at all.

I heard Marty Stone today say he was confident EE and KVD were using 6.3/1’s.  Agree they were both getting flat worn out at the end of the 2nd period.  I missed the 3rd.  Also curious about how straight the plug EE was using runs.  I may pick some up tomorrow and see for myself.

Speed-reeling a swim jig or a chatterbait around docks is a solid technique when the water is clear.   I noticed during the C-rig bite back in April that I got more bites with a heavier weight and much faster retrieve than I normally use.

Doing it all day with a deep diving crankbait would be like splitting 4 cords of wood with a maul.  If I was on a bite like that I'd sure try to narrow down my key areas so that I didn't have to cover alot of water.  Or at least pick a bait like a Shad Rap or lipless bait. Something that doesn't fight you so hard.

Edwin is 8 yrs. younger than KVD but he is by no means a spring chicken either.  He was fishing it way slower than Kevin with lots of stops and starts. Kevin was just flat out grinding.

Thanks Split for the reel info. For that kind of cranking, it totally makes since a 5 anything would just be stupid to work that hard, when there is no reason in the world for it.

Wrench these fish see so much, your point was great. Just faster make them react and not get to say I know who made that bait.
