Water was off at Taney all morning again...😁

Oh good, just what I needed to hear!

Well today was the day. Hammered the fish from 11am-6pm on a Hippie Stomper and an ice cream midge (pics below). All but two of the fish were in shin deep riffles. Where you thought there should be a fish, there was. I did lose a very nice brook trout about two feet from the net. It was 14-inches I bet. Caught a ton of fish--probably in the 40+ range. Lots of small ones, but I did manage to catch quite a few in the 10-14" range. I ended up catching one I measured at 15-inches. I saw a brown that went 17-inches, too. He didn't want any part of me.

Biggest brown:

A few of the prettiest ones

This is the type of water they really were feeding in. A lot of fish would rise on the hopper but whiff. I'd throw back in and the midge would be eaten immediately.

This was the access point. Caught one immediately and figured I'd better keep at it. Ended up walking only 2 miles on it, but there was fishable water everywhere.

They really liked what they call the ice cream midge up here in size 14. Once I lost all of those I tied on a size 18 rusty midge and I think they liked it even more.

This is the Hippie Stomper, which is just a hopper with hackle wrapped on a section of the foam. Easy to tie and floats great. I had countless fish try to eat it but they'd just miss it. They come at it so voraciously--like it was their last meal. I also stuck quite a few that pulled off. I did end up landing 12 on it, though!

Stopped along Hwy 14 in Vernon County and saw this. Pretty cool!

Some beautiful fish!

What is access like  - if you get in at an access point are you pretty free to roam up and down the stream?

Yep! I will take a pic today but they have ladders at public access points. The DNR pays the farmers/landowners every year to lease out a certain "right of way" by the stream. One area had a sign that said "beware of goats--they can be mean." But I've had zero issues and get this--have seen ZERO other fishermen. It's quite the well-kept secret I suppose.

Went back to Bohemian Valley this morning on a different stretch. It did not disappoint. Same flies, but today had many more eats on the Hippie Stomper.

I found a deeper hole (probably 4 ft) with a big rock in the shade. Made a perfect drift on the first cast and landed this big boy. I didn't have a tape but roughly guessing based on my net size it was 16-17-inches.

Here is what most of the access is like:

The weird part about these fish? They couldn't care less about tippet size. I am running 2x to the hopper and 4x to the midge. Makes me wonder why those pellet munchers in Missouri care so dang much..
