It seems odd to me that you can’t defend yourself with a gun if a big Pit Bull was attacking you. I’m sure they don’t want things to escalate with the owner afterwards. Maybe a fish gig would be in order with the barbs removed. Now at least you’re closer to having an even playing field.
Ps. I’ll take jail time for protecting my children, a daughter not  scarred for life or dead is worth it to me.

You can defend yourself. Carry legal weapon of choice. I'm with Mitch. If attacked do what you have to do.

Farmers in my area always from time to time have cattle harassment by dogs of all sorts. They run deer to death too at times.

Go by SSS method if you must but this is not a recommendation by me. 😉

Would not want my dog shot. Like to have a warning first. No dog now here. You wouldn't believe how many I released trapping way back.

It's a good thing dachshunds and chihuahuas aren't the size of pitbulls. They are more ornery than any pit bull I've ever met. I've seen some of those little turds that were meaner than a junkyard dog!

Was bit 3 times last year in the course of my work.  Mid size collie type, poodle, and stock dog.  Owner standing right there each time.

Collie type dog had 4 more that over powered the owner getting out of the door to get after me.  Poodle owner told the dog to apologize to me.  Stock dog was just a herding response that needed to be broken, nip to the ankle as trained.  All paid for the mistake in overcharge for the merchandise.

Good friend has a pound rescue pit in house with another dog.  We visited this spring and I fought the pit the whole trip.  Cornered me coming up the stairs from basement each time.  If I went out the front or back door, she was there tearing stuff up trying to get at me.  Did not bother the wifey one bit.  Maybe its the smell of dog killer on me, I have killed many in my life.

You have the right in the state of Missouri, its called the Castile Doctrine.  Any threat to life or health can be dealt with deadly force.

It was a woman, friend of the owner of the business.  But that was the way she scolded the dog.  Not like an animal, but a kid.

Recently here in Bella Vista a man was convicted for killing a neighbors dog, it was a felony and he got some jail time, something like 3 months.

The dog was a barker and lived in a house somewhere behind where the guy who shot it lived, dog was out on the back deck constantly barking, day and night.  The shooter had called the police numerous times about it, and all the cops could do was warn the dogs owners.  Finally the guy got fed up and shot the dog with a pellet gun, the wound got infected and the dog died.  Charges were filed and the guy was convicted.  Can't remember if he pleaded or it went before a jury.  I felt for the guy, bum deal in my opinion.

Maybe the guy thought the pellet gun would just shut the dog up.

What is the SSS method?
