@Cameron Gillespie first time I ever fished AR, Genes Trout Resort had a buncha cans of corn for sale. I was confused for a minute. Just figured everyone down there likes canned corn. Didn’t know it was for chumming.

A lot of guides take those institutional size cans of corn out there. I’ve used plenty of corn in my life and I’ve done lots of trout fishing, but the fact that they can be so easily caught on corn reduces the “mystique” of trout for me. (I know it’s different with wild trout and browns) I made the decision that I wouldn’t use bait to catch them (only jigs for me) and that’s worked fine. They could make Taney, White River, and Norfork all artificial and it would be fine with me, but that’s never gonna happen.

Also, some fly fisherman turn down their noses at anyone using spinning tackle, which is stupid. The way I fish with jigs isn’t much different than fly fishing and I’m not killing any fish.

If I ever used corn for trout it had to have been a long time ago. Also no cheese or Vienna sausages either. Soaked a bunch of redworms or drifted minnows when I used live bait for them. Used a lot of powerbait and salmon eggs during the urban catch and keep seasons.  Have been using corn for carp and buffalo lately.

Sculpin, crawdads, and crickets have all caught browns for me, although in the last ten years I have only fished artificial baits.

Have literally caught 100s of browns on a F9 or F11 floating Rapala over the years.

I think you’ll catch better size fish throwing hardware and jigs. I need to throw Rapala’s more.

Talked to Duane for a couple hours today. He said Shane got ahold of him and said the petition isn't going to do anything. Like most, he did his research and concluded the treble hooks aren't the problem. So that is squashed.

We agreed the real issue now is educating people on fish handling and enforcing the current rules (which will take all of us).

We were talking about that on Usenet, list servers, Yahoo groups and the Cafe. I've come to believe it'll never happen.

But, shoot a deer from the road and an MDC SWAT team will hunt you down, take your stuff and there will be a Facebook article about it.

I don't know what the answer is.

I hope you guys are using barbless trebles on those jerk baits.

Just sayin...

I know it. The only thing I can think of is everybody who fishes it regularly just needs to educate. And most importantly video of people poaching, license plates, etc. so the true egregious ones are fined. I've never trusted the government or relied on them, so why should we for this? Same deal with the declining turkey numbers. Everybody is clamoring and yelling at the MDC to do something. Well, why don't us hunters do something about it? Take only one bird, don't harvest in the fall. Why do we need the MDC to say so?

There's a difference between people sneaking buckets down there for fish hauls and a single mom taking her two kids fishing to try and introduce them to the outdoors and just doesn't now better. Those are the ones who need education. It's our resource, why not make it better?

I would've loved to see the law get changed...i would've just stuck single point hooks on all my jerkbaits and continued to slay em!  Haha really tho, lets just all get along...fisherman arguing against other fisherman just seems wrong, ive bonded with so many great folks over the love of fishing. Everyone is proud of how they taught themselves to catch fish but there's way more than one way to do it. That's why i like learning from other folks..i am a waayy better Fisherman than i was 3-4 years ago, some of it I've learned myself, a lot of it from others.

Cheers!
