BBQ in St. Louis

Ok Guys and Girls. I am from Texas and also Live in Missouri. I have yet to find a BBQ place that actually knows good BBQ. like brisket, sausage, ribs-beef and pork, in St. Louis.

In Texas the best is Franklin's in Austin, The Salt Lick in Driftwood, outside of Austin and Coopers in Llano. The thing I really miss is Coopers. Very moist brisket, Thick meaty, tender beef ribs, their sausage is to die for, Cabrito, and their lamb. Best lamb and cabrito I have ever had.   Though Franklin's and the Salt Lick are great also. Salt Lick on Sundays has a 32 to 36 oz Prime Rib-bone in, with green bean casserole, unbelievable cold potatoes, Charo Beans, Bread, sweet onions, pickles and pickled jalapeno's. $42.00. Franklins usually sells out before you get what you really want.

Any suggestions for a real BBQ house.

Man that’s a tough one.  Salt and smoke seemed to be genuine until they expanded.   Since Rona hit we haven’t been out much.   Not from fear but because of shut downs.
Franklins is on my bucket list when I retire believe it or not.

Let us know what you find.

St. Louis has its own style, pork butts, pork ribs, chicken, and sometimes brisket. You won't see alot of what you have down south.

My experience with barbecue is, it sucks.  I would much rather get a plate from a barbecue food truck at a carnival than the chain restaurants.   They are too expensive, and the quality is not great.  I have had good plates here and there, never had a good brisket. Ever.  Never had it in TX, so I cant compare.  Back yard barbecue with all the fixings is my favorite.    There used to be a place on hwy 30 around Scottsdale/ House Springs on the right side if you were going west.   Little hole in the wall. I had it a couple times and was not disappointed.

Snagged,

The Salt Lick in Driftwood and Coopers in Llano should be on the Bucket list also. Franklin's you should get there around 9am for the 11am opening, because they do sell out. The Salt Lick maybe 20 minutes south southwest of Austin. Bring your own beer, they have soda's and tea. picnic/bench style sitting.  Coopers in Llano maybe 50 miles west northwest of Austin. Coopers you pick your meat, they weigh it and you pay for it. Bread, Beans, onions and jalapenos free on each end of where you sit. All picnic/bench style sitting. They have beer, tea and soda's.   You will love it.

I was a KCBS judge for years.   Not that it made me an expert just that I went through the process to become one.   I live near STL so the drives got old and I quit.

Thx for tips.   My wife and I are going to TX on a trip primarily for BBQ (and fishing😁) in retirement.    I want to try some quality beef ribs there too.   I have less than 2 years left.

Salt Lick does not usually have them on their menu, but you just ask for the beef rib. Coopers almost always have them also.

If coopers has cabrito when you go there or the lamb, you should try them. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
