BilletHead Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Another creek another day. I first will say the catching was not off the charts like it was the day before. This creek is more popular with public access up and down it. We met another forum member and his wife (Ursus arctos horribilis). This trip for visiting and fishing together. We wadered up and hit a section of the creek with private access. We all fished nymphs and dries. This section is thick with brush and trees along the bank. Had to get in and out of the water to fish here and fish are highly spook able. Seen a few fish but no hook ups. I do not think I even had a take but do know Pat missed a couple on the buzzball. So out of the creek we went and back to a park for a picnic lunch prepaired by Mrs. Ursus arctos horribilis :). Great eats and fantastic visit. Remember it's not all about the fishing that makes a great day it is the whole package that you experience. So, we regrouped and went further up the creek to another access and walked down the trail to the water. Water so clear with gravel bottom. Log jams here and there with deeper washed-out holes here and there. We all started to fish with the birthday girl blazing ahead. We kind of leap frogged places. Pat and I are kind of run and gun while our dear friends are more matriculas in their chosen spots. first hook up was like this. Both Pat and I were using the pink squirrel under an indicator as no fish were rising. She was fishing above a log jam where it was washed out above. I dropped in a mid-stream slot below it and with broken water on top you could not see the bottom clear. I changed to a larger heavier nymph (north fork special size 10) and first drift connected with our first catch of the day, A quick picture and pushed on farther up the creek. Again, it repeated itself the same way with fish number two and I began to feel guilty, We rounded a bend and began to see some dimpling ahead of some takes on the top. Some dries got tied on to attempt to fool these risers. No real serious takers. Slower sections of the creek and gin clear water made it tough. These fish get pounded to death; I am sure. We see no other fishermen or fisherwomen but lots of day hikers enjoying the weather. One pool Pat named the aquarium. In this place you could see the fish and if you can see them, they knew you were there too. An errant cast and it was game over. A dozen or more were in here and a couple rather large ones lounging on the bottom. While Mr. and Mrs. Bear worked the place over Pat and I made a dash ahead as it was getting later to get her at least one fish. I had quit fishing at this point and we cherry picked the spots. She got two more hits on top that missed and two more takes on the nymph rigs. Here is the nymph I caught on, This fly was created by our close friend Tim Wade who owns and runs North Fork Anglers out of Cody Wyoming. We go way back with Tim. Here is a couple of videos of the fly, So it was time to drag up and prepare to bug out and head home. Day was still a success and can't wait to fish with friends again. Report over and BilletHead's out. Thanks for reading guys and gals. Sorry, already somewhat familiar with Ursus and could therefore deduce the member through the species identified. I guess I do remember some of the UMC book learnin’. Mike BilletHead 1
BilletHead Posted March 19, 2022 Author Posted March 19, 2022 Thanks, I did know the Ursus part but admit had to google to narrow it down further. If nothing else got some to further their education. nomolites and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!"
