Grand Lake

I realize that Grand Lake is one of the lakes on OA site. However, no comments on there since late Nov of 2020. I have a trip planned for Grand next week. I've never fished there before. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks.

I fished Grand Lake last Saturday. I launched from Twin Bridges (north end). That was my first time on the lake. I won't launch from there again...water was muddy and a lot of debris and stickups.. I caught one largemouth across from Elk River arm. We were throwing crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Water temp was in mid to upper 40's. Saw low 50's later in the day. I would say that Elk River area would be as far north as I would put in....I intend to go again and launch further south near Grove, OK. Water should be clearer down there...should be a better bite with these temps. I didn't see any bass fishermen until we had gotten to that Elk River arm area. There were 3 tournaments on the lake that day.

I have fished it a few times, only had one good day there and that was with jerkbaits in the fall.  The lake has a reputation as a good crank bait and jerk bait lake and it sure wouldn't hurt to pack a few jigs.  

I like the area on the south side of Monkey island, several coves to poke around in and the main lake bank is facing south.

Twin Bridges is great early March for white bass.  I fish the mid lake area a couple of times in the fall and go up the Elk too.  I have wrecked them on a crankbait and a spinnerbait on that lake.  It's definitely not Table Rock or Bull.  Docks and shallow bank running is where I've had the most success.

It's really tough getting any bass information on Grand.  90% of the fishing i do is there and it's gotten very tough over the last few years (granted i'm no good....).  seems to be much less casual fishing done there than Table Rock, which is why i assume everything is so hush-hush.  Lake is packed on weekends when tournaments are on and a ghost town when not.  I primarily fish the Elk Arm and up to Sailboat Bridge, just due to to the location convenience for me.  I always throw a crankbait first, always.  Jig, swimbait, texas rig worm are also staples in the arsenal depending on season.  The "mid-lake" area is generally known as the biggest producer, deeper water and usually cleaner

I’m not very good either but I’d fish a Spinner bait, square bill and jig 

fish dirt shallow to 10 foot.  I wouldn’t fish fish anything deeper than 15 feet.  And I wouldn’t bother with trying to fish the docks.  

Crank the riprap around bridges...and any barriers around the marinas/resorts with the square bill

the bass fishing has been in the tank for the past 10 years I think.  It’s not a finesse type lake to me...more of a power fishing type lake.  But maybe that’s why I struggle

if you’re trailering your boat...martins landing is a good place to launch.  Ivan was a great guy...and good fisherman.  it is a secure place to leave your truck

Never been to Grand but I can assure you they won't have a Classic at a lake that doesn't have the potential for good weights. I watched Edwin Evers absolutely put on a clinic with a little finesse jig up the Elk so they do live there. If I went there I would stay away from the Elk. After watching that final day Edwin had I have to believe everyone and their brother has hammered that area relentlessly.

Thanks for the info boys. Really appreciate it. Not sure where we are launching Quill. I'll be meeting my son in law there. He lives in Dallas. Grand lake is about exactly half way for the both of us. He's a working man still so it is a weekend deal. Fri, sat, sun. Sounds like it will be crowded. Sounds to me like, according to you boys, find clean water and power fish relatively shallow. Once again i sincerely appreciate all your info.

Friend of ours fished it over the weekend. Finished 14th out of 125. Had been on some good fish and was super excited, said he just couldn't find them that day. Like they were gone.
