Flysmallie Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 My favorite bass rod is an 8wt Redington Predator. It’s one of the older 8ft models. They make good stuff. Foghorn 1

I'll bring sandwiches and cokes as this might take a while. And possibly a video camera -we used to video some of the mayhem involved in our salmon trips up North but one in our group used too much foul language. BilletHead 1

Foghorn Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 The same guy who broke the two Redington rods was also the same guy using the bad language! Deadstream 1

I have one in the corner, and I agree that the blank is great. The guide spacing on the one I have is screwy though. It needs to be stripped and have the guides moved and rewrapped. I should have done that over the winter when I had nothing better to do.
Gavin Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Hope you didn’t scare him off and he bought something. Your first fly rod will never be the one you stick with. Don’t buy the Ferrari when you can barely drive. You need to master a beatching Camaro, and a Porche first. Daryk Campbell Sr and Foghorn 2
rps Posted May 4, 2022 Author Posted May 4, 2022 I have a shopping cart ready. TFO Pro II 6 wt 9' rod. Echo Ion reel. Orvis Hydros 6 wt weight forward floating warm water line, Rio three pack 12# tapered leader. $367 and free shipping. Not a "bargain" outfit, but one that the reviews suggest is a good beginning. This setup fits my hatred of cheap and my wariness of spending money on something new.
rps Posted May 4, 2022 Author Posted May 4, 2022 I have also been studying flies. They are expensive. I can tie clousers, wooly buggers, and San Juan worms. Poppers are something I do not know how to do. Suggestions?
Gavin Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Surface: Gaines Sneaky Pete size 2 in Chartruese MInnow Thingy: White Wooly Bugger size 4 Bottom Thingy: Black Wooly Bugger size 4 Small thingy to hang a foot under your Sneaky Pete...Pick some random trout nymphs about a size 10 with a bead head & rubber legs. That should cover most of it. Daryk Campbell Sr, rps and snagged in outlet 3 3
