Johnsfolly Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 Hey if you want to learn more about catfishing on the big river using alternative methods, you can check out this program. MDC to offer Mississippi River catfishing clinic in Northeast Region Free two-day program will teach anglers to catfish using alternative methods. KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Catfishing is a fun way to discover nature in the summer months, and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering anglers a special two-day program focusing on alternative methods. MDC will host a free Alternative Methods Catfishing Clinic Friday, July 29 from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 30 from 8:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. on the Mississippi River in Alexandria. Friday evening participants will be taken on the Mississippi River and shown how to safely set lines and navigate the river. Once off the river, there will be presentations on regulations, tactics, and gear. During Saturday’s program, participants will head out on the river to check lines, learn about regulations, and hopefully harvest catfish. A fish cleaning demonstration will be conducted upon return from the river. MDC staff and volunteers will offer instruction on the basics of setline fishing on Missouri’s rivers and lakes. An MDC fisheries management biologist will also provide information on recent catfish surveys and management of fish populations. The program will focus on safe and legal use of trotlines and bank poles, gear, equipment, and boat operation. Fishing, safety equipment, and water will be provided. All other needs, including lodging and food, will need to be handled by participants. Fishing permits are required, unless otherwise exempt. The clinic is geared for participants ages 12 and older. Advanced registration is required by July 20. Each participant must register separately. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/45p. For additional information, contact MDC Naturalist Alyssa Garver at MDC’s Northeast Regional Office at 660-785-2420 or by email at Alyssa.Garver@mdc.mo.gov. snagged in outlet 3 and Terrierman 2
fishinwrench Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Went out with a local guide yesterday, to learn the art of Livescope "Flutter Spoon Fishing"..... Absolutely loaded the boat with big Blues in less than 3 hours. Immediately came home and placed a 67.00 order with Tackle Warehouse. 😅 The Catfish crowd is missing the boat on that gig. Wow, what a blast! BilletHead, Johnsfolly, Terrierman and 2 others 5

No pics🙄 They were actually a bit of an annoyance, because we were supposed to be BASS FISHING. But after about 9 of them we were like......"This could be fun if it was actually what you wanted to do". 😅 No hard strikes, just "tick", hard hook set, and... "Oh $#!t, this ain't a bass!" 🥴 Terrierman, snagged in outlet 3 and Johnsfolly 3

nomolites Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 I went out this evening for a little while with my wife and we had 5 blue cats 3-6#(no big ones), 6 LM up to 17”(had a couple good ones jump and spit the spoon), 1 3# hybrid, 2 whites and a 13” crappie. No walleye. 27 FOW on spot lock. I was pitching a 3/4 jigging spoon and she was working a vibrating spoon vertically…she had the bigger fish as usual. I could have really worked over the LM with a 5” spoon but I was not after them. No pics as these mostly unremarkable fish….maybe tomorrow. BTW - Hope that flutter spoon works well for you FW, if you need a map out to those main lake points lemme know….😉. Mike bfishn, snagged in outlet 3, fishinwrench and 1 other 3 1

Funny you mentioned that 🙂 We hit 4 different spots, and only one of them was a "ML Point". And that just so happened to be the ONLY place where we failed to get bit. Your precious ML points are safe from ME. 😅 nomolites 1
