Is Pomme closed

We were scheduled to be at Nemo this weekend for Father's Day. No fishing just boating and swimming. We are reading that Pomme is closed due to an algea bloom. DNR website says no boating swimming or fishing. Is this correct? If we can't swim or boat as hot as this weekend will be, we just want to stay home.

@MOPanfisher is the Pomme guy. From the reports I read you can boat and fish but be sure to rinse fish off most beaches are closed. Think I would look at other options

I'm afraid we are looking at the future here.  As water temps rise earlier in the year and row crop runoff hits our waterways--these toxic "algae" will be the result.  Take it seriously, relatively low concentrations of the resulting microcystin toxins can kill a dog after a brief swim and drink.  We test our lake 8-10 times a year for clarity, nutrients and microcytin and cylindrospermopsin  toxins.  For more science based information on Missouri lakes, check out the Lakes Of Missouri Volunteer Program online at http://www.lmvp.org/.

Many of Missouri's lakes are tested and monitored by volunteers working with this University of Missouri program.  The data for each lake is posted and available to everyone.  Check out your fishing lakes!

I don't see any data on Stockton Lake nor Pomme de Terre since 2020.  Did I miss it or did they stop collecting data at these 2 lakes?

Possibly. 

They immediately stop collecting and advertising the results of such "data", if the economic impact is unfavorable.   

I've seen that firsthand.

No Pomme de Terre Lake isn't closed.  Wouldn't even know how to begin to do that.  However 3 of the 4 swim beaches were closed due to the presence of an HAB (harmful algal bloom).  What was posted around the lake is a series of warnings to take a look at anyplace you are wanting to swim, the old phrase "if in doubt stay out" applies.  Dogs seem to be the most at risk as they don't have the ability to evaluate Co diction and will happily dive right into the worst conditions, then lick their paws and legs.  Still waiting for the results of these test samples taken.  Visually it doesn't look as bad and may be burning out finally, Lindley side was much worse than Pomme side.  Test results will be the deciding factor as to if the beaches will be re-opened.

I checked with the LMVP water testing site and in fact, no one is doing testing of Pomme within the program anymore---a perfect opportunity for someone at Pomme to sign up and volunteer!   

Stockton used to have  3 sites in the program---at the dam, at the 245 bridge and Aldrige.  But Volunteer testing stopped in 2020.

The data is not real time, in fact it is compiled and made public once a year, so we are a year behind...however the long term trends over many years show where things are going.  I urge all interested in water quality to root around on the site--you will find a lot of good data.  In the case of Stockton, the date goes back to 2001. (cue kettle drums!)  But the program is looking for volunteers.  My wife and I have done water testing at our lake for 22 years.  It takes 3-4 hours, 8 to 10 times a year.  It is worthwhile.
