I personally enjoy catching the occasional oddball fish while targeting other species.  I have encountered a nice array of oddballs recently while throwing my favorite lure, the megabass 110+1 JR.  Figured you all might enjoy .  Most of these fish put up great fights!, was especially impressed with the drum

@Ik314 some great variety in those catches. Those look like fish that i would be chasing 😉. You may have two if not three species of redhorse suckers in that mix.

I've never caught a pickerel, still want to.  Nice post.

That surprises me Rick since I know that you fish the 11pt. They are common up by greer and in the lower current.

Those suckers my Grand Dad always called them Hog Molly's. And we always caught a bunch of them on our 1 week annual camping trip in the summer, on the Current River. Boy I still remember those days. Grand Dad would get the fire re-started in the morning. Bacon and eggs in the iron skillet, and home made Bisquit's in the dutchoven iron kettle. Then sandwiches for lunch and fried fish, tators or french fry's or home made hushpuppies with lots of Jalapeno's chopped up in them, and a bowl of fresh fruit all cut up. Boy those were the days.

They sure were.  Nobody hardly ever does a week long float trip anymore.  I've only done it once, lower Buffalo and then White River to Norfork, but I remember it well.  Especially Clabber.  That was an adventure in a very heavily loaded square stern canoe!

I wonder if you're misremembering the "hog molly" thing.  Every Ozarker I ever knew called hogsuckers hog mollies.  They called redhorse, which is what the suckers in the photos are, "yaller suckers".  Here's my northern hogsucker scientific illustration:northern hogsucker.jpg

Yep you are right, that is the Hog Mollie. We ate a bunch of those.

Hog Molly's were always the fish you saved for kids or inexperienced gingers to stab at.  Sometimes hard to spot but usually would lay still.  Miss going gigging occasionally.
