I know it’s just small acreage, but this little acre in the timber makes me feel good every time i brush hog it, or fill the feeder. My quiet area.

I saw two young bucks in velvet, three does and two fawns today in a spot I drive by daily that looks a lot like that.  Frequently see turkeys there too.  It really is a purty place.

We sold our Farm and kick myself every time I think of it.

It was literally in middle of nowhere.  The reason I sold it is because I was building us a New House in the holler thinking it would be better than on top a ridge.

Neighbor from the city came in the Spring wanting to know why I was cutting so many trees.

I told him.  He got mad said I was messing up his Deer hunting.  Interesting I always killed my Deer close to the house.

Well he bought us out. Should have told him where to stick it.

Nice place you have.

Thanks oneshot. We like it here. Had a much larger farm that we sold. Like you, i wish i still had the place. I could get lost there.

My neighbor who owns the 60 next to me came over this spring asking if i mind if he trimmed some of the trees on the fence line. I told him I didn’t mind, as it is as much his fence as mine. He said the guy we bought the place from told him he would rather him not trim them up. They trimmed 3 trees total that made it easier for me to see into his pasture and his pond that the deer frequent. He also told me that i could hunt his land if i wanted to.

We burned that big brush pile you see in the picture last Saturday, and cut some new atv trails thru the woods. Sprayed that area too, and will be discing and seeding the foodplot next weekend

Decided 2 weeks ago to go ahead and spray the area to kill everything growing. Had a busy day today. That ground I’m positive had never been broken up, so that was the plan.

We, like a lot of areas in SW Missouri, have our share of rocks. After i ran the disc over it for an hour and a half, we probably picked up 100 rocks from fist size to soccer ball size. Got it where i wanted it and seeded 100 pounds of  Bullseye food plot seed from Nixa Hardware. It called for 45 pounds for a plot this size, but we have a good number of deer in the area so i went heavy on the seed.

After seeding we hooked up the drag to the atv and covered it up. Came out pretty nice for a days job. Now to watch the next week as we get moisture for it to start popping up. The ground was pretty damp due to the rain we got yesterday.

I mentioned to my best half at 3:30 that I hadn’t eaten or drank anything today, and out she came with 2 sandwiches. Spam, mayo and jalapeño.

Well, it’s been planted 7 days and without a drop of rain it is starting to grow. We have a chance of rain tonight. It will perk up like wrench trying those hip exercises when it gets wet.

So disappointed in the lack of rain since planting. It’s not the time i spent on prepping it, or the money for the seeds, but that i did it for the betterment of the deer that come to fill their tummies.

Tho it hasn’t  had any rain on it, the deer are out there every day.

Boy did i plant at the wrong time!!!  The lack of rain that we sometimes hope for in the spring, would have really been a blessing this fall. Add to the dryness the 14 deer at a time we have seen on the plot, and that poor thing never stood a chance to grow.

These are pictures from today. The rain last week really helped, along with these warm temps to at least make it look green. It was almost down to the dirt. I did go ahead and broadcast more seed the day before the rain.
