Hundreds of acorns under the trees and many, many more still dropping. Went on a tent camping trip many years ago about this time of year. Wasn't paying attention and set up tent under a big white oak, wind came up over night and it was like being in a mini artillery barrage. Johnsfolly 1

I think that it would suck walking with bare feet over those acorns to go take a leak 😅

While shaking branches for loose chestnuts one of the spiky burrs that contain the nuts beaned me right on the bald head, ouch. The walnuts are raining too in the yard. Not a good deal hearing the thump as they hit the ground next to us. So far dodged that bullet/nut! I just don't like the idea of losing meat due to spoilage in hot or warm weather. Killed many during warm weather never lost a bit from spoiling. Last one I Killed during warm weather I give up on friends to retrieve it for me so I drug it out myself. You want to PO my wife bring her a frozen Elk. Not good! oneshot
fishinwrench Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 During the early bow season one year I killed one late in the evening and had to work the next day, so I hung it in my shed, stuffed the body cavity full of ice bags, and wrapped a ski rope around it to keep the body cavity closed. Fretted over it all day at work because it got up to about 80 degrees that day......But when I got home at 6:30pm only about a half gallon of ice had melted. A deers gut-hole is as good as a high dollar Yeti cooler when it comes to insulation. 👍 When I pulled the hide down the neck, head, and even the leg meat was cool as a cucumber.
oneshot 1 Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 Only time I seen any Animal go bad was a guy took an Elk shoved it full of snow. By the time he got back to it the meat had soured. He would have been better off just leaving it open. oneshot
Seth Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I've still got quite a bit of meat left over from last year (I killed six) so I haven't been in a big rush to get out there. I usually start getting after it once youth season is over with. nomolites 1
