...My wife said she checked into Dental implants and they cost too much.

Yeah, at 1500-2000 each, (+ 2-300 per tooth pulled) a head full of implants is only for people of means, I sure couldn't do it. My top tier insurance from work only covers the stuff I don't need. Teeth and hearing are on me.

What I intended  above was "implant-supported dentures". Only six implants plus extractions and ~3K for dentures. I've seen ads for 15-20K for that locally. Supposedly gives you 60% of function back, where dentures only do 20% (if that).

I had to settle for plain old dentures, and that was around 12K said and done. I made the mistake of using my dentist, who didn't bother to mention he hadn't done any dentures in years. He really botched it. I shoulda known better.

Like Ketchup said (and you already know),  quality of life should lead your choice. Even the most expensive replacement only gets you 80% there, so you're making a choice to accept less, no matter what. It all depends on how bad you really want out of the current situation.

You guys are making me glad for what my dentist described as textbook teeth. A few fillings, two crowns and one wisdom tooth removal.  Lucky me.

Definitely be thankful. I didn't even have a filling until 45, nothing else until 55. In the back of my mind I think having my jaw wired shut for 120 days at 18 affected something down deep.

Getting my hearing aids next Monday. It's overdue -- just ask anybody who knows me.

I took them for a test drive at Costco last week. During that I told my wife I wish she wouldn't talk so loud. Pushing the shopping cart around I couldn't believe how loud it was when it went over a seam in the concrete. It's funny what you notice. When I took them out it was like I had put my fingers into my ears. Such a dramatic difference. I'm really ready to get them.

But -- that soft talker at work is still gonna have to speak up. I'm not setting those on 11 just for that punk! :D

Hearing aids are in my future too.  Living around a lot of old folks, the worse thing is having to yell at them so that they can hear you.  And everyone pushes off getting them until they are practically deaf.  I'll probably do the same.  The good hearing aides are expensive too, and they've got tiny batteries you have to periodically replace.

20 years ago I would come down here and visit my folks, when the TV was on they had it set incredibly loud, I'd turn it down when they weren't looking.  Now I have noticed that I crank up the TV myself.

A lot of us on this site are getting old, here we are talking about dental implants, dentures and hearing aids.  😀

Whut? Whut did you say? Speak up Jeff I can't hear you.

Just had to since no one has said this yet. Pat says I can't hear sometimes. It may be but I call it selective hearing. The worst times is when she is in next room saying something when I am looking the other way.  When I respond whatever, you say dear she says did you even hear me? For all I know I could be getting bad mouthed!  We both suffer from tinnitus When it's all quiet like at bedtime. Pat says wow my ears are really ringing loud right now. I tell her she is just hearing my ears ringing.

When fishing with some of my elderly fishing buddies, I have learned just to go ahead and yell when I am talking to them, because if I don't, they'll say Whut?.  So it's better just to yell it out the first time instead of saying it in a normal level, and getting back "Whut?"  and then having to repeat it all over again at greater volume.

Have had hearing aids going on eight years now, my second set, and knowing how mine work,  I'd not recommend the cheap amplifiers at all. Go for something custom tuned for you hearing loss, which might be a set of frequencies  or several sets of frequencies with frequencies in between that you can hear very well. All the OTC "hearing aids" that I have seen amplify all the noise equally. Not pleasant, I had used one of those a few years before I got real hearing aids and stopped after a few days, when I got real hearing aids it was so much better. My new ones are Blue Toothed to my cell phone which is a bunch better than the first set, and can be Blue Toothed to TV if I wanted.

Tell her nothing is to much if it betters your way of life.

True but I've been going for years with 3 teeth because Partials cost too much.

We are talking about a woman that sent me to the woods with 2 Deer Tags and 3 shells. She said this was all I needed.
