Pinch mouth shut and fold tail shut. Then shove to front of board. BUMP. Remember sinkers will not make your fish longer.

Bygod you're right !     My fish that day were just like ME...... Couldn't keep their freakin' mouths shut !   Son-of-a- B !     🤔

 

Kinda hard to do that without blocking 1/2 the fish photo with my hand though!  Whaddya gotta do....knock them in the head first ?

             Don't ya know compared to other fish bass can be jerked into boats. Bounce around and left on deck. Then put in live well to be toted around all day. Culled if too small thrown back miles from their home. Starved for oxygen in a bag of little water with other fish. Then weighed a photographed and thrown back into lake. So fair is fair beat your catch in the head until submissive. It's a tough breed and will be ok. Measure and throw back. Easy Peasy.    You can always blame the lack of bass to the few not ashamed to keep one or three for dinner. The rest throw them back afraid they will be humiliated for keeping a legal fish. You get the picture now?

Speaking of beating your fish. I watched a video the other day where guys were catching tuna and they would beat them over the head with a stick. I didn’t know that was a thang.

           Keep them from hurting you I bet. Humane quick kill otherwise. Just guessing. Never caught a tuna.

My grandpa used to smack catfish on the head with a hammer before skinning them.   I never understood whether he was doing it to kill the fish......which it DIDN'T.    Or to spare the fish any pain......which it DIDN'T.   

I knew better than to ask though, because the fact that he was cleaning catfish meant that he was already pissed off.   

One of the first things us kids learned in our family.... was to never ask questions when the grownups weren't smiling.

These guys were hitting the fish probably 30 or 40 times before they pulled them in the boat.

Might have been "spiking" them. I think it's SOP to stab tuna in the brain with something to kill them. Some then bleed them and ream out the spinal cord to relax all the muscles and prevent whatever it is that  makes fish taste bad when they are stressed.

This group does it with one stab

Dutch is so old he fished the White river before the dam that created Table Rock was put in.  And the White river wasn't even a river when Dutch was a little tyke, it was still a creek. Dutch used to jump across it on his way to the one room school house.  @Dutch
