Nick Adams Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Fossil Fuel power plants (coal or natural gas) are regulated to the point that they burn cleaner than a gasoline car, thus charging them with a fossil fuel plant is cleaner than a gasoline-burning car. The average push lawn mower puts out more bad emissions than a car. It's all relative and electric doesn't work for everyone, but for the vast majority of commuters, it would be a great choice.

This is not quite accurate…emissions measurements are based on the ratio of “bad” emissions/NOx by volume. These days emitters often just add more air(blowers) and oxygen(injection) on the back end to get under the guidelines. The total volume by weight of the bad stuff in many emissions plumes is likely the same or even some cases higher. Brought to you by your favorite politician, lobbyists, the US EPA, and lots of $$$. Back in the day, I imagine plenty of horse and buggy folks made similar comments after seeing a Model T Ford run out of gas, or have a flat tire, or a mechanical problem. Not saying EV or hybrids or anything is the end-all, be-all . . . but I digress.
fishinwrench Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 People could significantly lower emissions by stopping all their needless driving around just because they are bored. I bet that only 1 in 20 vehicles on the roads are truly doing anything beneficial. The others are traveling 40 miles for an ice cream sandwich, or driving 70 miles to buy a pair of shoes, ect. Hell, Billethead will drive 140 miles to look at old rusty cast iron skillets for Christ sake! 😅 Fshndoug will drive 100 miles to save 1.20 on a gallon of carpet adhesive 🙄 If y'all would knock that crap off we wouldn't have all these ignorant emission standards, traffic jams, and outrageous fuel prices. 4-6 year old vehicles have over 200k miles on them. That's just insane ! tjm and BilletHead 1 1

No, I said data can be, and often is, presented with the intent to give the reader or listener a misleading impression. I think my cast iron travels might be a push because I am saving the planet by salvage making the cookware useable for the masses. Now do your part by throwing those two smokers away when being brought in for repair. I know, I know you can tune them up to be non-smokers but there is still nasty stuff going into our atmosphere. I know, I know for each one you repair will keep a new one that has been made a non-sell and save a bunch of plastic and what toxins that was produced while being produced down. I jest you as you jest me buddy! 😁 Guys and gals this is an interesting discussion. Thanks for keeping it civil and we are able to learn things before it gets nasty and the thread gets stopped. Any way you look at this we are depleting our natural resources here on earth. We have a finite amount we are provided. When it is gone it is gone period. Earth will fizzle out someday like it or not. How long that takes is not up to us or is it? Ideas can be good, or ideas can be bad. History has shown us that. Earth has had hot peroids before changing the workd and man was not here to mess that up. What caused that? Ice ages with great glaciers encroaching from the north and probably from the South Pole too never read about that. Man was here but did he create that change? I don't think so. I'm along for the ride getting older now I will end up compost. Hope it helps and not making things worse from the chemicals we now ingest. Keep the ideas coming you all. Great discussion right here I say again. fishinwrench and Terrierman 1 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Great discussion right here I say again. Weaning our way off of fossil fuels is going to take a whole lot longer than we anticipated. They might have a good start in 50 years or more. I think they understand that the only way to do this is depopulate the earth. Totally agree on the chemicals we ingest. They claim that life expectancy is as high as it’s ever been but I think that is changing. Us baby boomers seem to be croaking in our seventies, right after our 90+ year old parents are croaking.
