Neighbor brought us some nice cherry tomatoes, a couple of apple sized larger ones, a bag of lettuce, some anaheims and two green bell peppers.  And five empty egg cartons.  He went home with a full carton of eggs, which is a pretty usual thing.  We try to take good care of each other.  Kind of a throwback situation that is really nice.

Lovey bought some fresh mozzarella, some balsamic glaze and made caprese salad with the fresh basil that's on the patio.  Delightful it was.

We have one tomato plant on our deck.  Its had a rough life.  Blown over by a few storms...Cat keeps chewing the leaves and flowers.  But we've had 2-3 ripen so far.  Delicious! Not many green ones coming on...

We have had caprese already this season. Mighty fine eating!

Tomatoes from the store taste more like cardboard than tomatoes, plus they are $3 each.  I eat from 1-5 tomatoes every day when we have the good ones.

I eat about one store bought tomato per year when She buys some, and every time I am astonished at poor tasting it is and wonder that people even buy them.

As to having any ripe, I had two small ones last day of June, some unfamiliar hybrid that FFA kids grew, but it was really mid May when I set them out so those were a surprise, not only that they ripened early but how small they were, just larger than cherry tomatoes. Also had two banana peppers that day.  Stays this hot and dry though and those may be the only ones I get.

We had a rural water bill over sixty bucks. I can hear it now could have bought lots of tomatoes for that price. I will add Pat has lots of flowers we water and the little koi water garden pond. I also have been watering some young trees. All this and daily household use.  This drought we are having is awful.

Took a break from growing tomatoes this year.   I think I made a mistake.  Got some good snow peas however.  I just planted some squash and cukes, never have started them this late.

Farmer's market tomatoes are as good as anything I can grow.  And now they're coming on big time.  We buy the ugly ones grown in dirt and ripened by the sun that taste good.  Hot house anything is for somebody more hungry than me.
