yaknar
I just had cataract surgery so while I’m setting around I thought I would post pictures of my last couple floats. For some reason I caught a Gar on both floats but when they get along side the kayak they get off. I blame boney mouth…. vcompress_2.mov vcompress_3.mov FishnDave, BilletHead, Bass Yakker and 2 others
Dutch
We are around them all the time up James River but never had any bite my baits. What are you using that they like
yaknar
1/8 oz jig…. I caught her on a 5 foot light action rod. She towed me up and down the river for 10 min. I had to get out of the kayak, wasn’t enough room for both her and me….but I did land and release her….I did have a rope lure but never had any luck with it. BilletHead
Those are a couple good ones yaknar. Always liked catching gar. @grizwilson and I caught the heck out of them on our fly rods a couple years ago when they were trying to get to small shad in a ditch running into the Sac river. Caught them on smaller wooly buggers. The gar were stacked up like cordwood right on the bank. If you got anywhere close, they would crush it. If they missed, they would follow all the way to the boat snapping it. @Dutch we were using small hooks. The trick for us was being able to watch the take. Then when you could see the gar turn it's head strip set hard to sink into the fleshy part of the beak. There is not much there but it works. For all we landed we missed twice that much. It was fun. Daryk Campbell Sr
