Went down to the Kings after seeing a post by Jeff Fletcher holding a 23 inch Jaw, from years ago. He had stated the fishing was now poor due to gravel filling the pools and riffles and an extreme over otter population eating the fish.

I guided the Kings in the late 90’s for one summer putting in at Stony and taking out at the 86 bridge.

Went up to Stony about 1pm and was really surprised at how poor the road conditions were. It was way worse than it used to be. Heavily traveled but not maintained. Got down to the river and I’m guessing 70 to 100 people in the river. Couldn’t believe how many cars. Looked like a Chiefs game.

Bottles, cans, fire pits and lots of trash.

Went back to Romp, really cleaned up since the flood a few years ago, but again maybe 30/40 people, and the road was close to a 4X4 only to get down there.

River of course running extremely shallow and I doubt if I’ll float it.  Kind of like Jeff’s Facebook post, hard to go back.

Good Luck

A friend of mine went floating last weekend in Noel MO.  He said it was the most god awful experience of his outdoor life.  He said the activity of the day were girls showing their boobs in exchange for guys showing their B holes.  The drunken, screaming obnoxious idiots caused them to drive all the way back to STL after an all day float.   He refused to stay at the campground even though they were bushed from floating all day.

Wife and a church group floated the Niangua a few years ago. She said she saw more boobs than a girls locker room.

Language was so fowl it was hard to keeps the kids out of ear shot.

I posted this several years ago.

Lots and lots of peeps out there.

The very first thing you are supposed to show a kid is a boob.    What's the problem?  🤔

Church group on the Niangua doesn’t even make sense. Whoever put that trip together failed.

I see plenty of people where we usually float but they all keep their clothes on.

Even places I used to go to about 10 years ago have gotten out of hand with people. Elk in the summertime has been that way for years now. I wouldn't stay in any of those campgrounds. All pretty nasty from what I have seen. I'm sure with the Kings it has to do with the population explosion of NWA. Heck, any given weekend that is the majority of plates in the parking lots down on Elk or Big Sugar. I am constantly looking for new access points on the creeks around here. They are fewer and fewer anymore though. ☹️

There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

Elk has been overfull of nasty people for at least twenty years, although they do seem to fit more in every year. 10-15 years ago people living on the Elk or Big Sugar one got into it with the topless crowd to the point that law was called, fights erupted, arrests made, and and a County ordinance prohibiting females being topless was passed. I'm not sure that ordinance gets enforced, but I believe it is still in effect. Fact is NWA is overpopulated and Elk River attracts their worst.
