And, this time of year, leaves are a beech with the big vacuum cleaner on the back.  Especially on my little 25 hp Merc  that I have on  for the restricted waters like 11 pt.

I have a stick steer setup, I drive from the front.  Its like flying a plane at the tree line watching for stumps, snags, and rocks.

When the jet unit kisses the stream bed, it sucks up rocks into those grates and they disrupt the vortex into the impeller.  You loose power, have to pull over and work those rocks out.

          Leaves do the same for me JD. In the Spring even the sycamore fluff gets ya.

I love seeing these jet boat problems and constant complaining.  I truly HOPE your intakes are clogged beyond repair.  Bent intake bars, oh the whining, oh my! what do I do??🤣

I consider you all lazy sonsabicches.  Pick up a paddle and float the thing.  Screw your excuses for lack of time and "need to get there fast".  We would all appreciate less noise, and exhaust.  And, lets face it.   You're not cool.  You can't catch fish, except in those favorite "pet secret spots", miles from a boat ramp, where you've gone to dozens of times and pitch the same ned rig crap with lots of specialized skill involved, and then jet up to the next spot, whacking the same fish you've caught a dozen times over this year, posting pictures as if you're a genius.  🤣  Yeah, I'm talking to you.  But whatever you do, don't dare reveal too much in your pictures of your whereabouts . . . .😂😂

     @fishinwrench,

    We need your opinion on the polycarbonate jet foot and what do you think of this guy's answer to fixing the grates?

How to Straighten Intake Bars on an Outboard Jet - (boneywaterboats.com)

Heard of them, but never serviced or installed one.

This one will straighten out without any excess drama.Screenshot_20231017-204233~2.png

But this one here.....Those grates (all but maybe 3 of them) are stretched.   You aren't going to remove, straighten, and expect the holes to line up again.  Forget it ! Screenshot_20231017-204244~2.png

Love it!  Those warped gaps let more big rocks get through to where they need to get!

And the side benefit . . . more business for Wrench!

60hp and below have a really hard time with leaves.   90+ HP will usually suck them up & spit them out pretty good.    Just goose it and Go !

70-75hp w/jet pumps are the Problem Child.   Zero benefit over a 50-60hp. And almost always suffer a blown powerhead or 3 in their lifetime.

If a rock passes the grate without getting hung......No problem, she'll spit it right on out.   👍

But a bent grate that allows a quite-a-bit bigger rock, that ain't good, is it?  Makes me happy.

You can't bend one so bad that a rock bigger than the impeller blade gap can get through.

Actually if you don't mind filing your prop more often and replacing the liner every year or so, taking the grates off completely isn't a terrible idea.    Just don't let the kids swim anywhere near ya.  😉
