Anyone get out with a youth so far this weekend?

My little guy and i are out now waiting for his first ever. He has an attention span the size of a pebble, so i brought his Nintendo Switch game knowing it would keep him in the blind longer.

Good luck to the youth.

High-five for a parent that includes the kid in scouting, blind configuration, and meat prep after the kill. 👍

Zero for the ones that just set them up to pull the trigger..... then immediately let them go back home without a a drop of blood on them. 🙄

Hauling a deer (guts and all)  to the processing place is something they can do later in life, if they want to.  But IMO it isn't the way they should be taught to "hunt".    If they can't safely use a Buck 110 yet, or even be trusted with a steak knife at dinnertime......then for God's sake just leave them at home with their video games.

Not a youth of mine but one of my very best friends granddaughter and her deer from this youth season.   We will start with the shooting house Tim and Ona built. Yes, she helped Tim and her and some of her young friends painted the peace sign. Tim did the front. The blind ended up on poles floor about five foot off the ground. Tim is the best working with kids and he has taken other youth for there first deer. His granddaughter is one of the neatest youngsters we have met. Sharp as a whip and talented just like her grandad.  Here is the "Big House " Main shooting window in the upper teeth :).

They went out yesterday morning. Ona passed on a buck. Then I got these pictures late yesterday afternoon.  We are blessed to have friends like Tim and his family. He has built him a couple hives and I gifted him two swarms we caught. He is now a bee keeper too.

He said he has the best video of this hunt I have yet to see it and can hardly wait!

Nice buck for the young lady. Cool blind. We’ve had 2 does come in at 5 yards. He wants to wait for a buck for his first deer.

Ya know, if you field dress them before you load them in the truck, the heat leaves the body faster and it results in better food.    Kids should learn things like that, no? 🤔

I know I know, STFU Wrench and just congratulate the little runts for learning how to kill things.  😅

Yes, you should shut up.  It is only a short trip to the shop where there is an electric winch to hang and gut the deer.

Ok, the votes are in.    And the answer, according to the quality hunters of the group, is No.

🍻

I'm kinda proud that me and my friends were brought up differently.   We were discouraged from killing anything that we weren't prepared to deal with properly.  So learning that came first.     Just seems responsible and proper to me.

We set out in the blind yesterday until the rain was about 30 minutes away.  Nothing moving anyway, 80 on Friday and dropped to 50 overnite.  Ran the game cameras and got back to the house about the time it really started.

From then, it never let up.  Rain and wind.  8 does came out behind the house in the field yesterday around 4 as we were going to make our way back out.  We watched them for about an hour in the rain waiting for a buck to step out.  They worked their way off into the treeline.  Hopped in truck and went  to the upper end of the farm to watch a big field.  Another 2 does and a fawn was all till dark.

Rain all day today, did not even go  out.  Nothing moving either.  Did see a nice buck with a doe in a field on way back to town about dark.

Well, our day wasn’t to bad but he didn’t harvest his first deer.  We had 7 does and a spike which came and went 3 different times throughout the day. We tried getting a shot on him 2 times but he never stopped moving. Those does were pretty alert in the rain.

The new blind has 6 windows and they were seeing the slightest movement from us with the windows behind us. This week i will put a single black curtain on a string to pull to one side on every window to eliminate that issue.

It rained all day but maybe an hour. For 8 years old my little guy did awesome in that blind for 10 hours.  Now to focus on the bow until the next gun season.

I like this. They have to start somewhere, and I can relate.  I remember Matt and his first hunts. Now when finds time to go he has become one hunting machine. My grandpa hunted but being across country he could not mentor me. Where we grew up there was no way to hunt until the move to Missouri and being I had to learn this myself it was a slow learning curve. My first two fiararm deer were from borrowed 30 30 lever action. I thank all of you that mentor. You all have them a good start.
