Some have seen my rod building trials.  Today I tested my new micro fly rod.  I stopped on the way home to see if the pool at Rocky Falls held any micros.  I missed an opportunity to try to catch some that I seen at Bull Shoals dam.   Anyhow, here is my build.  I am well aware most don't understand or care, but I find it intriguing.

The "blank" is a fiberglass rod from an electrical wire fishing kit.  I turned it on my micro lathe and added eyelets from eye pins used in jewelry making.  Wrapped with thread from my fly tying kit.  UV resin to secure the wraps.  The handle is craft cork glued together and turned in the lathe.  The line is 1 to 3 weight line I found on Temu, and the reel was bought from Temu.

The rod casts better than I could have asked for.

My four piece fly rod and bass pro reel for comparison photos.

Super cool spot to give it a try too.

Yeah, perfectly calm.....and that's what you'll need.

I had a short little 3wt. that I thought was going to be great for pond bluegill......which it was, as long as there was no wind at all.    The slightest breeze took all the "fun" out of it and put me completely out of business.

Have you tried casting lessons?

Oh he knows he can cast a hell of a lot better than me.

With a 6'6" 3wt. and a 10mph crosswind/headwind/or tailwind I can't.

I decided, on that day,  that I'd never own a flyrod lighter than a 5wt. ever again.
