FG knot

I may give that FG knot a try.

Been using the alberto forever, but tends to snag in the guides, especially with lighter jigs. Very annoying and I haven't found a solution yet.

I’ve found it to work well with several different spinning rods.  I’m using 15# Power Pro braid with 10-12# Seaguar red label fluorocarbon line.  I use the line instead of the special leader material.

How long are the leaders that you guys are tying to the braid?

Same here but I will check.out the FG.  Hands shake too much some days to be able to tie more complex knots.

Tying the braid to the handle of my reel is what helped me the most with tying the FG knot. I always struggled to keep the line in my mouth when tying it.

I like to have have leader long enough that I can I real the braid/fluoro connection up in to my reel in case I get snagged and need to break the line. Otherwise you run the risk of breaking off the entire leader.

I like the leader to be a couple of feet longer than the rod.

I like the Australian guys better. Looked easier. I break off my albertos all the time. I'm using 10lb brain to 4lb flour. sometimes 8. I know I'm probably burning it when I tighten it.

 

I've started using a surgeon's not just b/c I know it better. Not very smooth but I don't break it.

I was jut wondering how often the knot was passing through the guides, it seems like twice on every cast. Apparently you never coat the knot with anything to smooth that passage like UV resin or Pliobond?

Does that knot work for any other application?

It is so small that I never hear or feel it passing through the guides.  I used to put a bit of Sally Hansen’s on the half hitches until I started using a Rizzuto finish.  I am not aware of any other application of it.
