aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted February 26 Posted February 26 So i have an 1648 jon boat and we recently found a 1996 yamaha 60/40 jet. ive had lots of boats and outboards but zero experience with a jet. Im looking for you jet guys to tell me what i need to know?? My brother is a welder and we plan on beefing up the transom. What else do we need to know? I always wanted a jet and im pretty exited about it but we have no clue what were getting in to BilletHead, nomolites and dan hufferd 3
dan hufferd Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Good morning, Those guys on the current river thread should know a thing or two about it. I'll be following along, to learn as well.
jdmidwest Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Fun when they are set up right. Take it to someone who does them all of the time for best results. The foot needs to sit just right at waterline or the flow of water into it will affect performance. Turn slower, poor control at idle. Suck up rocks and everything floating in water. awhuber, snagged in outlet 3 and nomolites 3 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. It's a big different learning curve but once you figure it out it will open up a whole bunch of new waters for you. When you take it places where jets are not very popular you will not have much company of other fishermen. snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I’m not saying you couldn’t do it but it might be easier to have someone with experience set the correct height. Tons of YouTube videos on it. Let us know what you end up doing. Pictures are nice too😆
gotmuddy Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Setting it up right is the most important thing. put a straight edge along the bottom of the boat and line the leading edge of the foot up with it. I highly suggest adding some carbon fiber reeds. The acceleration improvement is profound. snagged in outlet 3 1 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 This dude did a couple videos on motor height I think... https://www.youtube.com/@DennisBohannan/videos
jdmidwest Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Running streams in kayaks and canoes helped me alot. Reading the water and seeing the channel helps keep things going on plane. But there is always the rock or log that likes to hide. Or there is a wind that makes it hard to read the water.
