tjm
Any reel with the crank on the right side is best cast with the left hand, and vise versa. But I understand a lot of folks were taught to change hands, silly as that is.

If you want the handle on the right-side of a spinning reel or fly reel.....ya gotta have a "LEFT-HANDED" reel. Most rediculous thing ever. Just how many modern spinning and fly reels are made now you cannot switch the handle easily? I know when I am looking at an older vintage reel some cannot be changed. Edit, Sorry @oneshot 1 should have stayed on the point here. It surely can't be binding on the dozens of "good Samaritans" in your vicinity? It's on file at the local hospital and at the doctor's office. Doctors don't write them, lawyers do. Don't think it very likely that a good samaritan or EMT is going to intubate me to keep me going. And my wife is well aware of my wishes, which is every bit as good. Will you sue the ambulance company if they do CPR on you and you survive?

I wasn't whining about how hard it is to move the handle, I just don't get why it is considered Right handed if you are reeling with the LEFT. Fly reels are a bit of a PIA....gotta flip the bearing over, and pull all the backing off.

Fly reels are a bit of a PIA....gotta flip the bearing over, and pull all the backing off. Guess it's how you comprehend flyfishing. I cast with my dominate side which is the right. Don't want to change hands for reeling. In my pea brain it's a no brainer and assume handle is on the left side. I don't see on fly reel boxes where it says anything about right or left-handed. On bait casters I think they are marked Right or left-hand retrieve. tjm 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" It's not how I comprehend it..... it's how someone else (that probably didn't even fish) comprehended it YEARS AGO, and somehow it has remained the industry standard.
