I don't fish Taney, but the AGFC sure enforces the regs on the White and Norfork. I have been checked 7 times this year, 4 times on Bull Shoals and 3 on Norfork. They wade the C&R areas and some carry a fly rod and wear a fishing vest. They want to see license and then check for barbless hook point. I am glad they are out there, but I tell them they would have better luck finding violations by following the stocking truck and showing up 30 minutes after they dump fish.😀 snagged in outlet 3

You can't tell me trebles don't harm fish, I've harmed many just wrestling big fish in a net with a triple-treble jerk bait. They're hooked in at least 4 places by the time you get the hemo's or pliers to them. Compared to a single point fly?? C'mon. All hooks do damage to a fishes mouth. Maybe we should just not allow fishing at all for the sake of the fish. Ryan Miloshewski, tjm and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Ryan Miloshewski
@tjm Quenten was checking people at Pointe Royale last Friday night. I called him when I saw two guys with catfish rods, worms and a five gallon bucket by outlet one and he headed right over. Granted, that's just one night, but they definitely are having more of a presence over the last year or so. Heck, last year I got checked for my license three times in one of Phil's bass boats. Chris was motoring around in a non-descript rig. I loved it! All you can do is be non-confrontational, call Quenten or Chris, get a pic of the license plate, and hope it's a deterrent. In the end, though, with all the BS, Taney is still an astounding fishery--and probably the best it has ever been since the 1970s. dpitt and tjm 2 “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 28 Root Admin Share Posted June 28 I've spoken with numerous MDC guys about barbless and trebles. They all say it's more about cosmetics than mortality when it comes to both. So Missouri won't be changing their rules any time soon. But you do tie more flys, and buy more expensive fly boxes. There are a several reasons that I like barbs on hooks that have nothing to do with landing fish. What do you do with a soaking wet barbless dry fly? Or any soaking wet barbless fly, for that matter? Might as well just throw it on the ground or in the stream...... because that's where it's going to end up.
tjm
If I take it off, I stick them into the real sheep wool patch that's pinned to my vest and occasionally one will fall off, perhaps one in fifty. I've also hooked them into the loop side of Velcro. The key word in 'hooked', not just point stuck, but turned into the bend. An alternative would be to drop them into an Altoids tin half full of silica gel until you get home and sort things out. But then, I will agree somewhat in that any fly you take off while fishing may as well be thrown away, because it obviously doesn't work for what ever reason. And truth is that when I take those dried out flies off that sheep wool, 2/3 of them go in the recycle cup for hook salvage in the future. Most of my dry flies only need a squeeze with the chamois leather to float again, if they are still usable and if they worked in the first place. But, on the other hand, they do catch fish when sunk too.

I don't recall their names; maybe it was them. I told them I'm glad to see you guys out here! How do I contact them if I see something nefarious going on? Thanks!
