Mercury Marine?

So last Friday Mercury Outboard division in Fond du lac, Wi.  laid off 400 workers.   Today they laid off another 140. 😲  

Someone was quoted as saying it was because of "excess inventory".....But yet when someone wants to swap motors, and has cash in hand, the waiting time is 3-5 months. 🤔 

Whaddya reckon is going on ?    

 

I'm betting that sponsorships to all these wannabe pro fishermen are about to get trimmed drastically !

Can't confirm it myself, but have heard that there are a lot of boats sitting on dealer's lots.  Demand was high, now it is not.  It's a lousy deal for the people being laid off for sure.

Drive through Lebanon on 44.   I’ve never seen that many boats stored there ever.  And I’ve been driving through there nearly monthly for a couple decades.  
 

Car lots are packed too.  Tesla is storing hundreds of them at the defunct West County Mall parking lot because they have so many.  I think high prices of every day items like food and gas is hurting people a lot worse than people think.   Add on high interest rates and skyrocketing insurance rates and people are sitting tight.  IMO.

There's hundreds of them out there. And I bet Mercury has been paid for none of them. They are laying people off because there is zero money coming in.

OMC went through a similar ordeal in the past.   A lot of the '87-'88-'89 motors were actually built in 1986.  

They were good ones too.   I'm still running 2 of them today. 👍  I bet you won't be able to say that about the '24 Mercs in 2061 😅

Just looked at their recent stock history.  Gone from $92 in April to $72 yesterday.
