Corn crazy

No we didn't grow this but have a farmer neighbor that does. Plants a big patch for his family, big extended family. Generous guy. Called and said sweet corn is ready come pick all you want. We did a few days ago for fresh corn on the cob. Feasted we did. Went back yesterday morning and in less than 20 minutes we had three milk crates full. Pat went to work and I cut and ran. Kept 18 whole for corn on the cob for three days. The rest she cut off the cob. We froze on cookie sheets. This morning we vac sealed. Just FYI, 40 cups of sweet corn weighs 17.5 pounds. What a blessing. Gonna taste good this winter. We did not blanch the corn first. We have done it this way for years. No need to.IMG_20240630_093214489_HDR.jpg

I might add @curtisce was in the neighborhood and called saying he would come by. I said you might as well eat with us while you are here. He did and we had a good visit. Sous vide deer hindquarters roast finished on charcoal and cherry wood. Salad and sweet corn.IMG_20240630_163153998.jpg

Gotta love that fresh sweet corn. Dad always planted 8-12 rows along side the field corn, so we hauled 10-20 dozen ears to the grocery store every day for a couple weeks. Tomatoes & strawberries and apricots too.

I can't dance like I used to.

Pat doing the hard work. Not shucking the corn but listening to Marty singing!

She was trying really, really hard not to crack up. This was the third take. She busted out laughing on the first two. 🤣

That's a bunch of corn.  My mom's side of the family were farmers and they had a trading network with other SE MO farmers.  There's was always someone growing sweet corn and my grandma would pick a bunch and make homemade creamed corn and can it.  It was good.
