Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 26 Root Admin Share Posted August 26 https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/08/13/oak-leaf-itch-mites-cicadas/74780235007/ After walking through our property last week (in the woods), the next morning I had what I thought was poison ivy on my feet, although I couldn't figure out how because I had tennis shoes on. The next day it had moved up to my thighs. Then I had it all over. I get PI but not like this... and the way it was spreading wasn't typical for ivy. Now I just have small scabs and it's all but healed. Then my daughter sent me this article! I didn't have PI - I'm sure it was mites. My wife got them too, not as bad. Greg, who walked most of the places we went didn't get any. Anyone else encounter these mites?
Terrierman
We walked a wooded trail the other day at the Battlefield. Bites everywhere. I was blaming it on chiggers but these seem likely culprits.

BilletHead
Yes! Pat worse than me but she walks in the yard around the house with flip flops. fishinwrench
Oh yeah ! 2 steps outside the mowed portion of my yard will have your legs and feet burning for 24 hours. They were absent for a couple weeks.....but they are back now. Doesn't matter what I cover myself in, they'll go right through it. Hate 'em ! Quillback
None here that I know of. Chiggers and ticks are bad enough, don't need any extra biting bugs.
fishinwrench
From what I gather, they are as tiny as a grain of pollen. They cover the ground under trees and when you walk through there it poofs them up like particles of dust. When they land on moist skin they find a pore and immediately burrow into it because they are thirsty.
