Well, upon removal of the head, I found bad news.

I can feel the scoring on the cylinder wall.

Off to YouTube, I want to see what I may be getting into.

Interestingly,  when removing the housing for the thermostat,  there were 3 10mm and the rest were 11mm bolts.  But for the cover over the head, they were 1/2" bolts.

I appreciate the info.   Frankenstein isn't worth all that to me.   It was a gamble, luckily not too much was paid.   The search shall continue.

You invested 200.00

If the lower unit is good (no water in it, and not beat to hell).....it will bring 250.00-300.00 from someone needing one.

You had strong spark so the ignition components are known to be good, and are worth another 350.00-400.00 easily.

There's always someone out there looking for a cowling....and willing to pay 100.00 for one.

Did you say that it had an electric starter and associated brackets?   There's another 200.00

The manual rope starter will sell also....100.00 easily.

You gambled well !   😉

Ouch !

Somebody has been very mean to that little guy. 😔

It could be saved, but it's going to cost over 1k in machine work & parts......Not to mention some TIME.

I'd scrap it, part it out, and start shopping for another one.

I agree.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Those big gouges in the port opening are the deal breaker, it ate something. If those weren't there I'd say you could probably clean up the bore and throw a piston in it.

If you enjoy the tinkering, I've seen a lot of good used powerheads on Ebay that aren't too expensive. If the rest of the motor checks out, being that it's got electric start and a clean title, it may be worth the investment. Or find a good running 25hp with no paperwork and steal the powerhead.

Update.   I bought a used power head from ebay.  I bought an Evinrude/Johnson flywheel removing kit as well.  I really like the name Frankenstein,  and wanted to bring him to life.  Now to beef up my transom.
