ness Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Concerning Sand Hill Cranes, I’ve always heard “Ribeye of the Sky”, but don’t know of any firsthand partakers. Anyone eaten some that they can comment on? snagged in outlet 3 1 John

You should see the looks I get in public. Someday maybe get to eat and hunt one. Killing and eating a crane is a bucket list for me as well. snagged in outlet 3 and BilletHead 2

What I’ve heard is crane ranchers are reluctant to organize and promote their product because of their herds tendency to fly away. Supposedly there’s some new technology being developed that will curtail the escapes and bring SHC to your local grocery store soon, at a super premium price. PM me for details on a stock that is ready to skyrocket! But don’t tell anybody, because it’s kinda hush hush now. snagged in outlet 3 and BilletHead 2 John
fishinwrench Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I have sampled it cooked on a grill. I would gladly trade it for a Billethead goose fajita. BilletHead 1

Anyone eaten some that they can comment on? They are tasty and truly have the texture/consistency of a ribeye, without the fat, though. I would still take a speck over them. Good waterfowl fat is a close second to beef fat IMO. “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold

Anyone eaten some that they can comment on? We used to shoot a few when I lived in South Texas. The breast fillets were great on the grill. They deserve the label Ribeye of the Sky. Another unusual great eating bird down there was the Fulvous Whistling Tree Duck. BilletHead 1
