For everyone that goes broke there will be another with a dream to take their place. I wonder if like other fads if it will eventually level out or slow down slightly. I bet there has been a study or graph made for the popularity by years since it all started. You didn't study up on fixed versus variable costs did you? BilletHead 1 John

I don't see it diminishing much as long as boat manufacturers, tackle manufacturers and state agencies keep promoting it; that's why I asked Wrench to explain his thoughts. As you said there is always new blood. One guy gets divorced, another files bankruptcy, but there will be those few that won $100 for their $70,000 entry costs that will keep trying, and of course the guys that quit will have cousins that know they can do better, just because they can.
fishinwrench Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Things in the competitive fishing realm are way different now than they were back when there were only 2-3 "Pro's" per STATE. Now there are a dozen in every TOWN. And when I see what they are fishing out of, and towing it with......I can't help but wonder how the hell they are funding that, and yet can still afford to support a family. Because they aren't in the check line nowhere near often enough.

What's variable about spending money like crazy and operating on credit.....with little to no income? It doesn't take much studying to determine where that'll get ya. 🤔 I'll tell you one thing for certain.....When you see a pro fisherman spending 3-4 hours per day creating and editing a YT video, it's because they NEED MORE MONEY.....and they are desperate. "Please PLEASE subscribe!"
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Most the kids now that are becoming "Pro" have mom and dad as their financial backer. I think I could be a pro too if, I had someone paying the bills and I could fish every day of the week all over the country. IT takes me 2 months to get the same on the water time as they get in a week. That's why we are seeing the younger guys rise to the top

Regatta listings are showing 300 boats, but I doubt there will be that many. Middle school and high school kids. Probably supplied with everything by parents or other adults. Nothing wrong with it, but different than it was for my generation.
tjm Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Pretty sure the high school where my son lives has classes on bass fishing, at least I've run into their high school club on the banks of Grand Lake a couple times. They had pretty fancy boats and gear, I thought.
