    Beef tongue

Does not look great when you cook it but I like it a lot. Can get it raw at a Mexican market near the office, or cooked at their restaurant next door. Taqueria Durango, not far from the STL airport on Page between Lindberg and I-70.
  2. Have no idea what 5's are. Thinking house brand Cabela's or BPS.
  3. You could have a quick ride if they turn the faucet on. High fast slick clear water is not that dangerous in a kayak, but it is high consequence if you dump. Forget your stuff and the boat and get to shore as fast as possible. PFD for sure.
  4. AuSable & Manistee are LP streams. Worth a visit. Take a trip on an AuSable long boat if you can. Track down Steve Southard or Jeff McGowan if you want to longboat there. Usually best around Father's Day 4th of July for the big hex hatch. A smaller late hex should be firing right about now.
  5. You can do that yourself FW and safely. Delmar Loop in U City is pretty tame, you could see some of that on foot and have a great time. Take an Uber north of there if you want to see the hood. The hood is pretty safe for white guys in suits during business hours. Guess the hood residents figure you are an attorney or insurance guy. Show up casual, you are a mark, there to buy dope. Do not linger.
  6. St Louis County has some Elk & a herd of Buffalo in a park 15 minutes from my house. It gets allot of traffic. Lone Elk Park, NW off the outer road at I-44 and 141, by the Tyson Wolf Refuge.
  7. Go Smack them! Would drive the 5 hrs for that.

    What's Cooking?

Boletes are a tough to ID...If from same spot, have tried before, up to you...Porcini in the same family. Not much confidence with them...not easy like morels, chants, hens, chickens, etc.
  9. Have not tried those. Would ask the guys at your local fly shop about what gets returned & what they repair the most. Those look pretty good. Frog Togs are absolute junk....Kinda like wine. Cute animal names will give you a headache.
  10. Sweet boat! Would hook up with Doty for some fishing if you can. Harris boys slay when with him, do good without, but not as well.
  11. Those look great! When will they be available at Lilley's?
  12. Have always had better luck at dawn v night fishing. Hit but mostly miss at night. 5am till the sun hits usually good.
  13. A kid can handle a modern 9' 5wt rod & reel combo. They weigh nothing in comparison to what we all learned with. Think 12 is a better age. Have some 5'6" custom spin cast poles that my girls have outgrown. One pink, one purple. Fuji guides, Fuji grips. Think I have $50 in each, but would take $ 20 for both, reals are shot but not Barbie poles. Long enough to cast, hook, retrieve. 9 and 11, using 6' spin rigs now.
  14. If your headed back toward Ashland, bring a fly rod. The Brule isn't far from there. Would be a good fall back if the big lake gets angry. Beautiful area..
  15. Short rods are a disadvantage when it comes to fly casting. Would get him and 8.5 or 9' rod..5wt should be fine, and get someone to sand the grip down to fit a small hand. Start with pickup and laydowns, then the roll cast.
  16. Trout fishing is still fine. Always fun to catch a bonus striper on the NFOW. Good eats!
  17. Pike species & small mouth absolutely hate a Mann's 1-...Great shallow bait. Big, Mid, and Baby....$6 bucks a pop. Will pull some fish when looking up, but hesitant on topwater.
  18. Pike are nasty to deal with but its fun too catch a big one. Musky fight harder. Would head north if you want a decent shot at one. My friend Bill caught a 50" on a fly on the upper Mississippi north of the Twin Cities. Took him about 14 days to catch a 50". We hooked into several and landed two on a 4 day canoe trip on the St Croix River near Grantsburg WI. They are not a fish of 10,000 casts if you go where Musky live. River Musky are easier. Slack deep eddies near current with some wood in it. Any ambush point. You will probably hook one if the are present. Lake fishing is tougher.
  19. Good for you guys! You put a smack down on them.
  20. Looks like an awesome time! Killer Redfish! The Florida Gulf is pooched south of Tampa to Marco.....best to go to LA at the moment.
  21. I have no agenda, just think that your melt down is sad and funny.
  22. Carp are fun to catch and fun to arrow, but.....The truth always comes after the but....I don't read his drivel often...maybe one in 10. Last weeks fly fishing for carp with Dave & Flip was interesting enough to look at, but not in favor of banning him. He needs a "Carp Only Zone". Give him his own forum and make it subscription only. If he posts anywhere else about carp. Kick him, an kill his forum.
  23. Good for you and your family!
  24. Remember booking the Missouri Trappers Assoc, for a fishing club meeting to talk Otters...The MTA folks were really nice, but tough as you will ever find. They had No appreciation for releasing live otters before they were allowed to kill them. Said you would win in the end, but the Otters would get some flesh, destroy your waders, etc during a live release. Vile little critters!
  25. Ouch! Your son has some grit! Thanks for the info!
