  1. I think having to sit and sort through 20+ videos before tallying the score would be a nightmare and a drag. Identifiable bump boards handed out just before takeoff, and a scoring system based on inches rather than weight seems to be the easiest. It may potentially result in a few ties........but probably not very often. The issue I have with that, and I delt with it when we had our little contest here, was that alot of times you have a hot fish that refuses to sit still on the bump board.....and you end up chasing it around on the floor of the boat for a minute or two TRYING to get a decent pic. In a club style draw tournament, you and your non-boater partner could score each other. The likelihood of any"cheating" would be very slim.
  2. You're probably right. I should sleep with one eye open, at least until our next anniversary. Thanks for the warning.
  3. Are you kidding me? He instigated the battle, then crawled under a blanket and hid from her...... Totally left ME to supply defense for the entire team. Typical Irishman! 🙄 I'm proud to say that the battle was victorious nonetheless. 💪😎👍
  4. Well, we had another 'bout of it the last couple days in between home improvement projects. Ol' Dougy Poo is pretty handy to have around 🙂 Hung some screen doors, got into a few mild arguments about "brick molding", and he almost got me divorced twice in 2 days...... but it all ironed itself out. Did some dip-bait catfishing a couple evenings and caught enough for a mediocre fish fry, then went bass fishing last night. Me and the old fart put almost 15lbs. in the boat in 3 hours. It was hella fun! Thanks for all your help Doug! 👍😁
  5. I went through a tiny winter midge and Trico kick years ago (24-28-32) fished on 7x & 8x. I did have some success on the Current and in the trout parks, and I guess it was kinda fun, but thankfully I got over it because that's just kinda rediculous. I still carry some celery drys in 22, but seldom fish them. And basically draw the line at #20 and don't even own 8x tippet material anymore.
  6. I have a kid that does a pretty good job detailing boats. She's real cranky, and it's obvious that she doesn't enjoy her "work", bitches and whines the whole time........but if you just tune her out, the results in the end are definitely satisfactory. 👍😁
  7. The technology is certainly available to eliminate "weigh-ins" and calm any worries about cheating. Guys are spending thousands on FFS, spotlock systems, ect. but throw a fit about rigging their boats for any type of immediate release scoring. Personally I'd be really excited about any system that eliminates my need to house fish, and cull. Livewells just add weight to a boat and burn up battery charge capacity. Who wouldn't WANT to avoid those headaches?
  8. I actually asked, in a group conversation a few years ago, with 4 MDC biologists, 2 agents, and a hatchery supervisor......" If the number of tournaments isn't ALREADY excessive now, then at what point might you consider that it was?" Double the amount? Triple the amount? Could it EVER be deemed excessive? I really pinned them down and kinda demanded an answer. ANY answer. From ANYONE. I wouldn't let them change the subject. Nobody in the group would address that simple question, and the conversation (which was going very smoothly, and everyone seemed to be enjoying it) suddenly ended. 🤔 Anyone here care to take a stab at it ? @Seth ? 🤷‍♂️
  9. Oh no, everyone has a 20+' boat with a 225+ outboard. If you think they can go a single day without going for a long boat ride you're mistaken. They have 8 hours to kill.....and if they are any good at this game then they know the bite window of recycled fish doesn't last all day long. They'll typically catch several elsewhere, then cull out 3-4 of them closer to the scales. Guys that haven't figured out the game yet (the majority) will run far and haul fish just so they can hear their name called and make an appearance.
  10. I did it for years myself, and still occasionally do, so I can only condemn it to a certain point. I think tournament fishing is an awesome sport, I actually love doing it. But at some point you have to realize AND OPENLY ADMIT when something you love is being grossly overdone. 🙄 60-70+ weigh-in tournaments every month, on every body of water is overdoing it. If you deny that then I have no respect for ya. Period.
  11. No, that should be done by the anglers, or the tournament organizations, that truly value the resource.
  12. Not the entire fishery, but certainly large portions of it. You don't see the high river, or the Niangua's shine much these days, do ya? Nearly all of the winning limits come from the Glaize, from Alhonna to the dam. or the mouth of the Gravois within sight of Coffman access. Why is that, do ya suppose?

    Hybrid?

Is that similar to me loving ugly heirloom white bass ? 😁
  14. So it's likely that only 4 of the 47 got a check. So 43 boats (86 guys) lost sleep, wasted fuel, and harmed fish for nothing. I'm amazed that this method of scoring is still allowed by the "Conservation" dept. ***'Lets not look THERE, let's study Milkweed"***" 😂 Oh boy!
  15. I once came home from work to find my house in the exact same condition with a note on the table. Turned out that my live-in, no job/no ambition girlfriend had decided to bail. 4 days later she called announcing her sorrow and her plans to come back "home". After considering her dramatic exit...... leaving all the drawers and cabinets open, ect. I declined that decision and changed the locks on all the doors. 🙄
  16. This is why things (in the tournament world) need to change. Hauling around, Putting them through the Weigh-in process, Relocating (and potentially killing) perfectly good 2-3 pounders by the truckload......for NO REASON AT ALL. 😔 Why are they still doing this in every body of water, 4-5 times per week? 🤔
  17. Me too! And if I could quit being lazy by swinging in those sub 2 pounders that ate a War Eagle I might be able to afford it. Swinging in those smaller spastic fish is what wrecks those baits.....and causes them to break when you've got a biggun on. 😥
  18. Gallinipper cr. is a spinnerbait/topwater classroom. You can master everything you need to master with spinnerbaits and topwater baits right there. The soft/soggy bottom seems to always have the fish looking up.
  19. Not bad! After getting my flutter spoon lesson a few weeks ago I spent +60.00 on spoons.....and haven't been able to get a spoon bite going since. Day before yesterday I got on a good shallow bass bite and had four over 3lbs. and 7 keepers total in 4 hours before I ran out of logs to throw at. Went out the very next day and do you think I was able to pull it off again in a different creek? Noway! But I did locate a school of whites and mutts that saved the day. Went out again in the sauna this evening until dark, with the fly gear.......Miserable! 2 dinks and one decent White. 2 really good days, back to back, seems impossible to pull off lately. It seems like a pattern is only good for about 12-16 hours.
  20. Oooooh, gotcha. 👍 Do you not have your truck anymore?
  21. Too muddy for CATFISHING ? If it's too muddy to catfish in.....then you might as well plant corn in it. 😅
  22. Possibly a few in the deep slow pools, but there are better places to catch catfish that are closer to you. The Spring Branch area here in Gravois Mills is absolutely loaded with 2-3lb. Channel cat right now. To the point that tending to more than 1 rod doesn't even allow you to sit down, or drink a beer before it gets hot.
  23. There is some stuff called "Gluvit" that is a great coating for jon boats, but the right way to seal rivets (if you can get to both sides of them) is to just "buck them up" with an anvil (of sorts) and a ball peen hammer. 2 mediocre taps is all it ever takes. And while you're at it....buck up the ones closest to it. A loose rivet is just going to get looser.....and then the one next to it will get loose. Anything you try to "seal it up", or "cover it" with is not going to last. Take my old beat to hell 1648 out for a full day, and at the end of the day I'll give you $1.00 for every beer bottle capful of water that's in the bilge. 👍🙂
