Ouch. Cutting corners......and then the hook happens.
nomolites replied to Browning Guy's topic in Table Rock Lake
Rookie(or stupid) mistake. He wouldn’t last 5 minutes on LOZ. Mike -
I heard threadfin catching was pretty bad....😂

I’m not that particular...11 and over and it’s in the box. It is cool, but like I said I am not much of a gamer - I spend too much time surrounded by monitors for my day job. I believe all those who relate it’s “game changer” capabilities, but I’m happy with the game I’ve been playing...for now 😉. Mike

You can pinpoint those fish just as well on SI, then it’s just a matter up being able to shoot a jig to them. I never did like video games and don’t see that tech in my boat at this point....but I may change my mind later if I have more money than I know what to do with. Mike

A small fraction of that time on LOZ would have you in concussion protocols....😂 Mikw

Most of the tunnel hull designs I have seen have additional surface area in the design as well as added at each side of the outboard lower unit. This seems to provide additional lift as well as containing the plume below the cavitation plate to ensure good flow for the lower unit. Is it conceivable a 20’ tunnel has comparable surface area/lift in contact with the surface of the water with a flat bottom 20’? If so, the engine can run skinnier, providing there is no bottom contact forward of the transom. At least that’s the way it looks to me...but I have been called Primitive Pete... Mike

That’s a nice rig. Mike

I had a Weim that did that...I still look over my shoulder for her sometimes when cleaning crappie. That was something she never missed. ‘Mike

One exception from my experience: the ladies move in the last hour before dark to do their thing during the spawn then vamoose. The last hour of daylight fish shallow cover. Or not, but I will be. During the day the ladies suspend off the banks usually mid-depth(i.e. 20’ over 40 FOW) and can be had with cranks, jigs, or whatever you can fish comfortably within that zone. Get a cooler of snacks and cold beverages and get some sun and pick them off. Mike

That looks tasty. My experience is it depends on water clarity; in more turbid water Fire tiger is a good color here as well, although black/chartreuse is the one combo that is tough to beat in those conditions. In clear water natural colors seem to be better, but a little chartreuse/fluorescent yellow rarely is a bad thing...sometimes purple is the difference. Mike

Yes, like FW says lots of 100% DEET. I have been a couple times and caught tons of fish - mostly smallies with some pike. If I had only one bait I could use up there it would be a white and chartreuse spinner bait. Mike

I do the same, although I have an electric and I can shave the red meat off easy peasy with no waste. Some fish have a deeper lateral line and I will bisect as mentioned above and shave the red from each edge with very little waste. With hybrids and stripers there is quite a bit of meat below the line although I agree with Dutch that there isn’t much there on an average or small white. Mike

I’m just going to say that based on my experience on LOZ, there are two different types of shad present, and the returns on sonar are unique to each as their schooling habits are slightly different. To FW’s point, then there are also age/year classes of each with different size fish in various schools...and the big gizzards are obvious and entertaining at times as boats “key” on them and try to catch those “bass”. Determining which the fish prefer today is the key to a good day, because they have access to ALL. LOZ is a fish food bonanza and is unique to all lakes I have fished in Missouri....BUT, you have to tolerate some serious IDJIT populations to be successful(and survive) there as well. The most recent striper class are big gizzard eating size at this point and are going to get ‘uge. Gonna be fun. Mike

My point exactly; you just called several thousand rounds you have on hand and you are a proclaimed non-fanatic gun owner. Going to be A LOT of tragic boating accidents soon resulting in the loss of firearms ammunition, maybe Rick will lend you his boat! Mike

I am certainly a hoarder...like JF, if I find something that works I ensure I don’t run out. I am in recovery now, and I have learned to ask for help...so please send me your ammo so you don’t get accused of being a psycho. I only want to be of service. Mike the Hoarder

I hate how the media sensationalizes and vilifies anyone who has ammo and firearms. “Hundreds of rounds of ammunition”..etc. Who has been brainwashed? I know lots of folks who have.... These days anyone who wants to be able to enjoy shooting on a regular basis needs thousands of rounds of ammo on hand. It does not take much to have “thousands of rounds” of ammo on hand if you include rimfire and shot shells. All of these, as well as centerfire, have been difficult or impossible to get for over a year, along with reloading equipment, components, and anything else shooting related. Is this due to the threat of a liberal congress? The ‘Rona? I don’t know for sure. I do know that if your hobby involves shooting(sporting clays, target shooting, or just plinking) it is common to go through hundreds of rounds per day afield. I shot in a sporting clays league for several years and I would easily burn 2-400 rounds a week. Take a couple kids shooting .22s and you will eat up hundreds of rounds in a day. Do I have 10,000 rounds? Nah, I got nothing. I was just talking about other folks who enjoy shooting. Mike

Nothing fancy...that was the last few Umpqua 555 I think I had, size 10. I need to reorder and will probably order the Hanak 450s as I mash the barbs on all my flies anyway...easier to remove from the back of my neck. 😉 Mike

Yes, I have the 6’6” and I can tell no difference, other than color and labeling. Mike

I traded a broken Browning label in for the BPS labeled rod a whole back....same rod, just different color. Mike

Glad to hear everyone is OK! Mike

Nope. Most often used here as an adder with basmati rice and mushrooms cooked in chicken stock. Doesn’t take much - simple and delicious. Mike
