Chesapeake Stripers - Headed to a full Moratorium?
Gumboot replied to Johnsfolly's topic in Conservation Issues
When in high school, 1976 , Chesapeake was the first Michener book I read. Lead me to read all the rest. I was living in AR at the time and found the duck hunting/market gunning stories interesting. -
Many years ago a friend and I hired a guide for a weekend down there. Stripers on Saturday and smallmouth on Sunday. He had a big bait tank with fresh shad that he'd caught that morning, he knew about where the schools were. We'd motor around find a school, get up wind and drift a live shiner through the school. We caught a bunch, but nothing big. We also caught several catfish that were in with the stripers. The smallmouth was live bait as well. We'd motor into a cove and throw a live shad to cover, watch your line. No wt, just tight lining. Wasn't the most fun fishing, but we sure caught some nice smallies. We pulled into one cove with a really nice BIG house and boat dock that he said belong to Ross Perot. He dipped out a few shad and would throw them, in a high arc, towards the dock, they would get hammered as soon as they hit the water. He said he was feeding his pets. We caught several pushing 4 lbs.

Those little Japanese beetles almost completely defoliate my Lindens some years. Those big ones might be the death of them...

What do you expect/want from your boat mechanic?
Gumboot replied to professioneat's topic in Table Rock Lake
Several people, likely potential customers, have taken the time to reply to your original post. A brief reply acknowledging their questions and/or ideas, would seem appropriate. As stated previously, communication is very important. Wish you all the best in your new endeavors. -
Bill...I only fish about 2x per month, yet this site is the first one I read everyday. Seeing one of your posts, first thing in the morning, is always enjoyable. I've lost a couple of friends to pickleball, they haven't pried my tennis racquet out of my hand...yet. All the best to you and Becky.

I use my laptop. Ads are not overly obtrusive.

Taneycomo Cicada Report 5/18-5/20
Gumboot replied to Ryan Miloshewski's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I was doing my morning coffee and OA at work this morning and reading Ryan's post. There's a guy in the office that loves to fish, especially Taney, and I turned around and told him that Ryan tore up the trout on Taney this weekend using Cicada flys. Justin said..."I know, and he broke my TFO rod too". Too funny. -

"Easily in my top ten fishing experiences of all time." And that's even after you broke your buddy Justin's rod... -

Nothing in south KC yet, but the bird dogs look like grazing cows out in the yard, and they're not eating grass. They'll mosey along with nose to ground and every now and then come up with a snack. Fresh hatched cicadas have always been a favorite of theirs. My wife's yip yap dog will walk around with a live one in his mouth, before eventually eating it. More than once he's let one go in the house. -

Awwwww...that was so sweet. Gives me warm fuzzies. -
I agree, they're very sporty. I just think they're icky. Lmk where to send my man card.

We used to crappie fish our duck hole in Cross County AR and catch those things by the bucketful. I'd cut the line and give them the jig. And you guys are tryin to catch them. 🙂

Red buds started popping here in KC over the weekend. White bass should be starting to run up the creeks. Probably already on for you guys further south. Any reports?

Why does it make me so happy to learn new stuff that will have absolutely no relevance to me in the future... thanks Wrench. -
We were visiting friends in Scottsdale this weekend and went to the Barrett-Jackson sale on Friday. Apparently the really expensive cars are sold on Sunday, but we saw several Chevelle SS's, old Vetts, Mustangs...all go for over $100k. I didn't see it, but was told one of those old gas pumps went for $50k+. I'm not really a car guy, but these guys put on an amazing show. The auction part is just one piece of it. Highly recommended.

Some of y'all are so unoriginal. "Our sires' age was worse than our grandsires'. We, their sons, are more worthless than they; so in our turn we shall give the world a progeny yet more corrupt." Book III of Odes, Horace...20 BC I have 3 successful adult kids and 1 HS Senior that's going to KU next year. All were better kids in HS than their dad. My youngest son's friend group is full of smart, polite, nice kids. Yeah, they like to smoke a little weed, as it's readily available, but I don't see near the alcohol consumption that was rampant in my HS days.

Who knows...day I got divorced was one of greatest days of my life. Nice looking boat. Hoping it works out for Bobby.

Appreciate it Wrench. Electricity not my strong suit but will give it a try. If you haven't already, you need to get the software to diagnose these newer etecs. There's a market for someone GOOD to work on them.

If all else fails...read the manual. Will do.

Haven't had a what's wrong with my motor thread in a while. I bought this boat and motor in 2018 w/ about 90 hours on it. It's done this since day 1. I turn the key, the motor seems to go thorough a startup process where the tach spins to the peg and back to zero, and then it cranks. Takes 5-6 seconds for it to finish thinking about cranking. Then it cranks and starts on the first hit. Does this every time. Has never failed to start and runs like a champ...once it decides to crank. Starting battery fully charged and showing 13v's on the dash. Any ideas?
