  1. I mainly come down to flyfish for trout but I also like to bass fish with conventional tackle. I've always wanted to fish one of those rivers for smallies if that's what you have in mind. Just never really persued it. SIO3
  2. Too bad JDC, I won't fish Sunday. I have to drive home. Maybe next time? At this point I'm planning on Mountain Home. We'll see what the rain does. SIO3
  3. It might not ruin the brown run in October but it's certainly trying to shoot a hole in my weekend. SIO3
  4. Will do Flytyer! Thanks. Glad to hear the rain today is light. I'll know Thursday what me schedule is. SIO3
  5. Well I have the weekend off to fish and I'm either heading to Mountain Home or Taney. MH is my first choice but they are getting some rain and I'd like to wade. I'm going to camp at Norfork if in MH or The State Park if I go to Taney. I can't find anybody that can get away so I'll be a loner mission. Is anybody going to be around. Do some fishing, maybe have a beer in the evening? Post up boys. SIO3
  6. I thought the longest was the shuffling thread. Sorry.
  7. Very cool Doug!! And I don't even have a bass boat. I think you did a great job on your experiment. Just like a good chemistry experiment, simple with easily documented results. And it paid off. SIO3
  8. Phil must be in Alaska!! And the substitute teacher is on a smoke break. Probably a cigar. SIO3
  9. That's the hatch we always thought of when refering to white flies on the Meramec. We hit it one time about 7 or 8 years ago in January when it was snowing. The flies were very small and the trout went nuts over them. It was one of those typical winter days when everything was either grey, black or white. If your fly got past a feeding trout it would rise up and turn upside down to get them. Size 12 huh? Cool! SIO3
  10. I'll tell you why I clam up. For about 20 years a couple buddies and I knew about a very good bass lake was public, but not well known. We would routinely catch fish up to 8lbs and had many 100 fish days that rarely saw any fish under 2lbs. Then the internet came to town and the lake was listed on the web. The next trip to the lake I found an old timer with a cooler of large fish and one fish in perticular laying in the gravel road. It was clearly close to 8lbs. He says to us "man I just found out about this place from my son and it's great. Caught em all on goldfish and I'm mounting that big one there and eating the rest tomight. Tomorrow I'm bringing the boys back for this!!" Fast forward a year and the place has been fished out and to make matters worse, it's trashed. The following spring we went back as usual and there were 9 boats on a 45 acre lake. All we caught were dinks. Haven't been back in 3 years. Of course now the lake has of all things, a slot limit. What a joke. SIO3 There are no fish at Busch either!
  11. You guys just aren't changing rigs enough. SIO3
  12. Gavin White flies in August? No disrespect meant here, but don't they usually come off in late fall and well into winter? SIO3
  13. Bman, Don't even think thoughts like that!!! SIO3
  14. Nice!!!! Reminds of my youth. I must've been a real sight in the St.Louis Metro area back in the 70's. Pellet gun, flashlight and crawdad traps. Steal a couple beers from the neighbors garage frig and be gone all day and night. Eat like a king the next day! Nice!!!
  15. I've floated both tailwaters many times and the White is easy and wide even on 6-8 units. The Norfork on the other hand gets narrow and swift on 2 units. I'd prefer a pontoon over a canoe any day on the Norfork. You had better know what you are doing on the Norfork whether it be river jon, canoe or pontoon. It gets sketchy pretty fast. We shot the Big Hole falls at McC's on rising water in a canoe and believe me it's all that and a bucket of chicken. Especially with waders on in the fall. He said he was going to use it to float down and access fishing areas. I think that would be perfect and I see lots of guys using them on the Norfork. This is just my "sittin in front of the computer opinion". SIO3
  16. He was just holding his mouth right!! SIO3
  17. Is there a specific method you are using? Technicals? Fundamentals? SIO3
  18. We gave up a couple years ago. The rabbits and squirrels are thick around here. My wife wants me to get a pellet rifle and start putting some down. At the old house you could rabbit hunt all year and never make a dent. We backed up to farm fields and the rabbits were everywhere. My son and I would sit in the kitchen and pop the window open and shoot them with a pellet rifle. It was a blast. They would sit in the flower pots and eat the flowers down to nubs. Sometimes we would have 10 or 15 in the yard at a time. To put your cost in perspective the farmer down the road sells sweet corn 4 for a buck. Tomatoes are a buck a pound. Squash and zuchini are quarter a piece. Not to mention cantalope and beans at give away prices. I feel your pain. My wife just hates those bunnies. SIO3
  19. It's a private message through the forum. It's the envelope icon below your name. SIO3
  20. I fear it's too late. 9 replies and 80 some odd views. Internet trollers got to it already. In this day and age you just have to revel in your success without telling anyone. SIO3
  21. Got to the water around 8AM. Started slow while the fog was still on the water. Dragged some eggs, scuds and midges without any takers. Got above rebar and got spooled on a sowbug using 7X. Hooked up again on an olive scud and brought that fish in after a healthy fight. It was 16 inches and fat. That fish fought well enough for the whole trip. Spent the next 2 hours whackin em in the rebar hole!!!! Drove back to Indian Point and spent the day boating, tubing and swimming. Drove down the lake to have lunch at The Truman Smokehouse. The Branson area is awesome in my opinion. Oh, my families as well. I'll hit the water again tomorrow morning if the waters off. SIO3
  22. You might look at the pictures at Big Cedar. There are a lot of old pictures down there in the resturants and shops. Great topic by the way. Snagged
  23. Thanks Phil. I got to the water about 9:30 this morning and the level was around 704ish. I was well below #2 and was using an egg with a weighted scud dropper and 4, #4 spit shot. I broke off 3 nice fish in a row and they all took the egg which led to having to tie on a whole new rig. Oh, 6X rio tippet. Then the water came up enough around 10:30 when the horn blew to run me out. I drove to Galena to float, but the water looked up a little and stained so I didn't float. I'll be out early tomorrow to see if they cut down on the generation. SIO3
  24. Sounds like a great time. That drive back is a killer! Excellent report. Thanks, SIO3
  25. Please!!!!!!!!!!!! Somebody throw a sheet over that!
