  1. Thank you for the Bday wishes! I will have a busman's holiday. For dinner, I have wheedled the wife into making her fabulous No Kneed Bread loaf. With that I will make a mussels with tomato garlic broth main course, a Caesar salad, and something fruit for dessert. Only the wife gets butter poached lobster or that kind of stuff. Film at 11:00.
  2. oneshot Think about this concept, just beefed up a bit for larger fish and baits.
  3. Remember all who lost their lives and all the families cruelly affected. My only beloved image of that day.

    What's Cooking?

Out of the smoker late yesterday afternoon. I think I got the bark right.

    What's Cooking?

The Point end of a brisket has been smoking in my Kamado Joe since 9:30 this morning. Haven't a clue when it will be done, as no two briskets have ever cooked the same amount of time.

  7. The only reel tech I know is a send off and get back a few weeks later.

    What's Cooking?

Weekend salad. Made a little remoulade to go with it.
  9. On certain flats, especially those with flat points that run out more than 100 yards before they fall into the channel, strolling with a big jig and craw or a brushhog may be the only way to find fish glued to the bottom. And this time of year, glued to the bottom is real common.

    What's Cooking?

Forgot to post the weekend meal with the daughter. Mushroom and bacon stuffed pork tenderloin with pan roasted brussels sprouts and dressing.
  12. Just a thought, but maybe worth considering. Most baitcast reels lock down drag at 20 lbs. pull or less. Most experts recommend setting the drag at 1/3 the line strength, unless the specific application dictates otherwise. (Short line punching in lily pads). I would bet your drag setting with your 20 lb. line is less than 15 lbs. Of course, I could be wrong. If I needed an extra 100 feet with a super spook, I would respool with 12 or 15 lb. Yozuri on a reel that has been super tuned and set the drag at something around 10 lbs. The extra line you could spool would protect against being "spooled", the resistance to the fish would be the same, and the bait would fly farther. My 2 cents.
  13. I love cuts, but have never caught many.
  14. There was a time in my life when I would have called that tall cotton. A comfortable seat (not necessarily expensive) and a reliable engine would make that a great buy for a solo angler.

    What's Cooking?

Bacon based, onion/celery/sweet pepper/carrot/garlic/white wine/tomato paste/anchovie slurry, navy beans and lentils, herbs, chicken broth + slow cooker.
  17. This time of year, my best pattern was late in the day shaded deep water edges (outside bends) working WTD baits within 6 feet of the bank. I always assumed the fish had risen from deeper water for the evening feed. As usual, the best areas were where some change occurred. A cut, a rock fall, or a fallen tree are examples.

    What's Cooking?

Coconut rice with shrimp and corn.
  19. Walleye - no spots on the dorsal fin, and white tail. The color is variegated, but does not have that muddy look associated with sauger.
  20. I wonder why he was up at Emerald Beach? Could it be the inside bend flats that run out to the channel and have humps and valleys in them?
