  1. Those lampreys are popping up everywhere. Back in the 80's, we only found 1 in a season doing a year long stream survey on a stream off of the Mississippi. Had one on a smallie a few years back on the 11pt.
  2. I think Uranus even has a gun range, never had the time to stop and look. Surely more benign than the signs let on, but I will wear my heavy pants if I ever stop in....
  3. Put in where and run up? Fishing?
  4. It is a drive I have not taken. Go explore and write us about it. I have been thru it a few times going east to west on 160. Been on North Fork River at Tecusmeh and Dawt Mill many years ago. Its pretty hilly country.
  5. Vaccines train the body to respond to a viral attack on it with low doses of the genetic code. Body responds and creates immunity. When real thing comes along, you still contract the disease but body takes care of it before it advances. Measles probably does not mutate much. That is why you can keep 99% effectiveness. Coronavirus and Rhinoviruses do constantly mutate and adapt, so they have to keep up with them by new vaccines. The common flu shot is just a concoction mix of what they predict will arrive the next year, shotgun effect. If you have no health issues, good immune response, young, and don't mind to get sick for a few days, skip vaccines for flu and Covid. Covid has watered itself down to a bad flu bug from the killer disease it was engineered to be in 4 years.
  6. Harder to plane with smaller motors and only a driver. But great visibility and always by trolling motor.
  7. Yep, I have had other gobblers try to mount the one flopping around.
  8. Back to Jet Jon's. I like front stick steers, like driving a plane up the river.....
  9. Air Rifle could do the trick. If you cripple one, do the others pounce in and finish it off? That would be a fun game. I always cripple the first crow and let it bounce around where it can't fly. Drives the others nuts and makes them stupid.
  10. From the angle of the sun on the shadows at the time of the pic, must be near Gravois Mills.
  11. The whole thing started with firewood. Ash trees were quarantined as no sell to transport anywhere. Boards or firewood here I believe. I did cut some up for my fireplace from one that fell in the field.
  12. Our ash trees on the farm are almost all dead now from the borer. I first noticed them in logs I keep by the fire place for when I need a fire. They came from dead trees and I noticed little piles of sawdust on the floor. Then I found the beetles dead on the window sill. They leave telltale sign of their presence. They weaken the tree until some other disease steps in and finishes them off. As a mushroom hunter, I use them as a place to search for morels, which seem to be symbiotic to the root system of the tree. The farm is located about 20 miles from the epicenter of it in Missouri, Old Greenville Campground. They first found it there, carried in from another state on a traveling camper bringing their own wood from back east. The Corps of Engineers and Forestry tried to contain it by killing every ash tree in the area around there. But, those suckers could fly. And spread. Timber is valuable if you have enough to harvest and is of good quality. But most buyers want a quantity cut to set up shop. They are not interested in a few yard trees.
  13. What ever happened to Didymo? I have noticed all of my boot washing stations are gone.
  14. You need it, fish will jump in the boat to see what is on your screen...............
  15. Should work fine on a 1648. I get about 15 mph going up a steep gradient river in my Panfish 16 which is a heavy v front light duy bass boat. In a regular jon without extra weights, it should scoot pretty good with 2 people. My light jon has a Johnson 20 2 stroke jet on it.
  16. The MSN article was hard to read in my browser, it highlighted the talking points and blacked out the main text. Each highlight text brought up the many articles it gleaned info from. But, straining the eyes to read, the just of the matter is that gar DNA does not mutate very fast. Our cells replicate, depending on the part of the body and type of cell, at very fast rates. All it takes is one little glitch in the code, and poof, its cancer. The cells of the mouth multiply at very fast rates. That is why when you burn a tongue with hot food or damage tissue any other way, it heals itself without any issues. But, if something screws up the process, it goes the wrong way and develops a new tumorous cell and forms a cancer. Then the new mutated cell replicates at the same rate as the original and becomes agressive taking over the others in the area. Lucky for me, radiation took advantage of that fast replication in a target area and killed off all replicating cells. And the good ones too. Then the body took over and healed itself back to the normal state. If we could ever go back in time and re create a human that has genetic tissue that is similar to the gar and its replication factors, it would be a big win. But, as an advanced species, warm blooded mammals, I doubt it could really ever happen. Good article. Proves that latest and greatest is not always best to survive.
  17. Back in the 90's, we had one here. I used black foam bodies with Krystal flash wings. Bass loved them, as soon as they went splat on the water most of the time. Those big bugs falling out of the sky need a loud presentation. I think I used them on trout also, but they are a little more skittish.
  18. Light crowd for weekend opener
  19. It rains stupidity all around us every day.
  20. Time flies when you are having fun. They did not give me good odds the second time. It had been in my body for almost 2 years and looked like it had went outside of the node I discovered it in. But surgery and radiation did the trick, with lots of help from above.
  21. My second Grandson turns 7 tomorrow making it Year 7 since I found the last cancer. Still kicking and celebrating his birthday. Grandson 1 got his learners permit today, going to be driving me to the fishing holes soon. Life is still good.....
  22. Because boats crash into docks on your lake all of the time and sink. It would take a big landfill to hold them. Keep them for fish structure.
  23. Has anyone found a way to increase the trout catch rate at Montauk with Livescope yet?? We all worry about the bass, what about trout? Are they using it for them yet, don't hear anything about it. I know they slay the crappie with them.
  24. Or, MDC writes you a ticket for littering the lake.....
  25. Expense does not keep toys out of the hands of the poor. Kids will go hungry first before the give up the toys.
