For many years, I would enjoy them on the way to the duck blind. It seems like a hunt was always planned on the night they came in. I can remember a few mornings waiting for daylight to come and watching them. Not this year, not chasing birds for a change. Arm still works good for casting but still too weak for recoil.

Most are quick and short, just flashes of light.

You really need to open them up and break them in. Be a shame to find a defect in the back yard on Christmas morning. They do put out a dud from time to time.

This Is what it Looks like when you eat Zebra Mussels
jdmidwest replied to MoCarp's topic in Conservation Issues
I just assumed that you knew for a fact that the carp were becoming a solution to the zebra mussel problem by first hand observation. That's why I asked. -
Fishing buddy texted from hot tub tonight, nice meteor shower going on. Moon is dim and sky is clear here. Look to the northeast and watch the show. Some directly overhead too. Should go on till dawn. Just came in from a 20 minute outing and saw about 15. Couple of bright long ones.

So, did you kill the fish just to see what it had been eating? Looks like an awful rough cut for someone wanting to preserve meat for eating. -
I opened up the deer blind Sunday and there was an all black one on the floor. 25 that morning and 70 that afternoon. I think the poor thing knows more than I do here in MO, just accept the fact its going to be something. Something now, 2 hours later, something else. Then 10 minutes later, something totally different. At least he was smart enough to get inside the blind out of the wind.

Boat Maintenance
jdmidwest replied to Nick Williams's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I personally charge the batteries after each trip then check before I head out. I never trickle charge, constant charging can wear a battery down faster and burn up electrolytes faster than letting it sit. If it sits for a while, I always go out every month and refresh. My main battery always seems to have ghost useage somewhere in the system as it drains 15% and the trolling battery stays full. Probably electronics on the motor? Most new chargers and onboards are computer controlled, they are supposed to shut off until the battery needs charged again. I assume it works that way. My portable charger shuts off at 100%. Many chargers don't have this feature. You have to check the specs on the one you have. -

Assuming its a new boat and motor, it should be able to handle ethanol gas without harm. Not as much fuel concerns as older motors and ethanol. -

Check and drain lower unit each season, refill with fresh lube. Monitor charge on batteries thru off season and charge if needed. Repack axles each season. Wash and wax boat to keep looking new. Keep rodents away from the boat. -
Melt one of them down and recast a whole bunch of .177 pellets. That is a chunk of lead going downrange each load. I just sent 20 sailing downrange that weigh 240 gr out of my 50 cal blackpowder this afternoon.

Nice. I bought a new 1322 a few years back when they came out again, total dud. No power. My old 1377 from the 80's still had more punch than the new one. Wally world did a clearance back in the summer and I picked up a new 1377 for the grand kid for $25. Still in package till he gets big enough for it. Might have to look into hot rodding the 1322, it needs something.

why do other states have bigger smallmouth bass?
jdmidwest replied to MoCarp's topic in Conservation Issues
I fish TN and catch big smallies all of the time. Big water, good forage seem to be the key. Pressure is strong there also and they get fried often by others. But they survive, multiply, and grow to decent size. I am sure they could do the same here. They used to in several streams before somebody dumped trout in to compete with them and choke them out. -
Rod guide repair in St Louis

What about Paul's Bait Shop on Chippawa? They used to do it many years ago. I stopped in a few years back and picked up some Shimano reel parts and noticed things had went down from last time in. -
Glad to hear that. 2 years of all clear and they consider mine gone, 14 months to go.

I doubt it will be a Nitro, Tracker, Ranger, Triton, or Stratos. Maybe a MOFISH!

I agree whole heartedly. 3 weeks of my life put on hold waiting for a verdict. I had started planning on spending Christmas laid up in stitches. No Alternative Deer season again this year. Having to face the decision of advanced treatments again. All kinds of things were running thru my mind. The biopsy was on nodes farther down the neck in the big muscle running up the collar bone. It would have been a tougher area to operate on. While I was at Siteman last week with the biopsy, I picked up my scans on CD from the last year. I read the PET report from the physician that interprets the scans, he had found a 5mm nodule on my lower right lung that had not showed up on other tests. None of the docs had bothered to mention that finding, just the lymph nodes. But it scared me more than anything else, that is where the cancer I had would end up as it progressed, lungs or bone. 14 months elapsed from first surgery till the second one, I have been worried that it spread elsewhere during that time outside of the neck area. When I spoke to them today, they cleared that up also. It was just a normal spot on the lungs for a man my age. And, since this was my first scan of the complete torso since March, it did no show anything anywhere else. I can be sure that it is not hiding somewhere else. It has been a rough 3 weeks of waiting.
-
The call finally came this morning around 9, Lymph nodes showed no sign of cancer. All clear, back to 8 months cancer free and going forward. A huge weight lifted off my shoulders after 21 days of waiting. I am sure those 21 days took a few months off the end of my life just worrying about it. 14 more clean months and I can call this episode of my life done. Thanks for all of the prayers. Went out and bought one lottery ticket this afternoon, don't want to spread my luck too thin....

The only thing I have seen goofy is not holding the rifle when shooting it. Just laying the rifle on a bag and shooting it tends to create flyers. Its the opposite recoil of the spring unloading to compress the air that makes the rifle jump before the air hits the chamber and sends pellet flying. I always make sure I have a tight grip on it, consistantly.

The next level of the airgun hobby. Prices are coming down as more jump on the bandwagon. https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Diana_Stormrider_Multi_shot_PCP_Air_Rifle/4449/8647 https://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Air_Venturi_Air_Compressor_Electric_4500_PSI_310_Bar_110V/7458 https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/AirForce_TexanSS_Big_Bore_Air_Rifle/4317 The last one has enough to take deer size animals.

No, not enough. We are talking scuba tank air pressure. 2500 to 3000 psi. It takes a special filtered compressor. Like BH says, either buy a tank and have it filled elsewhere, bicycle pump it, or buy a nice hi dollar compressor. It takes a big monetary commitment. Upside, real pressure that equals the firepower of a powder rifle with multiple shots. No cocking, pumping, or jacking around for about 20 full power shots. A real hunting weapon. Quiet and deadly.
-
Yours must be longer, mine only goes to the rib cage. They do tend to give one arm a workout. Be glad when the grand kid gets a set so he can cock them. My next goal is a PCP. But unless I invest in a really expensive air compressor, I will be using an expensive bicycle pump. At least it will work out a different set of muscles.

How many grandkids do you have or expect in the future? That is how I tend to justify my collection of knives, fishing rods, fly rods, boats, airguns, firearms, camping gear. I started using the excuse of son inlaws this year for firearms and it seems to work well. I never seem to pass up a good deal if I see one.

The breakbarrel will scatter a Simmons Scope on first shot probably. Walmart sells a Centerpoint scope that is rated for breakbarrels. There are several others, Hawke is a good one. 2 stage recoil is hard on a scope, the spring loaded piston causes a forward and backward recoil unlike a powder fired rifle. Most scopes are only designed to handle the rearward recoil of the powder rifles, they come apart when the piston unloads.
