Trick is finding them. When you find them then you just have to figure out if they want a bottom bait (finesse jig or ned rig) or something suspended (swimbait or jerkbait). I’ve used crankbaits like a wart or shad rap at times too but the NED and jerkbait do most of my damage in the winter.

I'm glad I can be a part of it and help out. Pete, Randy and everybody else that put these events together really put their heart and soul in to it.

I can understand how they feel. You're still the only person I've ever met that wears me out when it comes to fishing. Usually I'm the one who doesn't want to stop but you're on another level my friend!

They dumped a bunch of pictures on to the Facebook group if you would like to check out more of what goes on during this event. It's set to public viewing so a Facebook account is not required to view it. https://www.facebook.com/missouridisabledsportsmen/posts/4577751765634216?__cft__[0]=AZUECRitSBnVjtat1b9CFbkVlmoVisisxKALnLYDals6-gKbjTiRJ7FfM_Z0a8_-qDa2NoGn9kuthsLQHOdZ5XbGTrlNqbgVRDprCTRcQg4tISJ8dqUgrIi1oYhjef4qB1A8i46fGoGg2O8CXdiJJcQG&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R

I got involved with the Missouri Disabled Sportsmen group four years ago by helping guide disabled hunters during the antlerless firearms season in northern MO. It's honestly one of the best things that I've ever been a part of and really makes you reflect on life and how good most of us truly have it even when we don't feel that way at times. Anyways, for the past three hunts, my buddy and I have been paired up with a gentleman who has multiple sclerosis. The first two years were pretty uneventul for us but things finally came together this year and he was able to harvest a big ol northern MO doe. To some, it may seem like any regular deer, but so many of us were so invested and wanted this to happen so badly for this man that it felt like we'd shot a 200" buck of our own. Some details on this hunt. Last year the land owner who provides the shop for everybody to stay in gained permission to a nearby piece of ground that he knew was loaded with deer. It's also very easy to access and allows us to drop off hunters right at the blind. An electronic aiming system was donated to the MDS group by a family who lost a disabled son that loved to deer hunt. They wanted to see it put to good use and this was the perfect place to do it. The last piece of the puzzle was a phone scope which allowed our hunter to have full view of the reticle without having to be up close to the scope. With all of those pieces in place, things finally came together. Here's a video of the hunt. There's some added drama due to some equipment issues early on, but it just makes the successful part all the sweeter.

I took a vacation day so a buddy and I could go chase crappie on the lake. We got put in at Pb2 around 9 and were both limited out by 11am. Everything came on docks or brush within a mile of the Pb2 access. We caught them 2' under docks down to 30' chasing shad. They were easy to find with side imaging and they were hungry. None of them broke the 12" mark but not many were under 10". Perfect eating size.
-
No clue on the bass fishing, but we had our limits of crappie within a mile of the PB2 ramp in less than two hours yesterday. If you have side imaging you shouldn't have any problem finding them and wacking them. We caught them in 2-30' of water casting, corking, shooting docks and dipping. It really didn't matter.

First I would make sure my close friends and family no longer have to worry about money and then I'd probably just do the same thing I'm doing now but on a larger scale for newer and more expensive versions of what I already have. Add in a decent chunk of ground to manage for deer and some out of state hunting and I'm pretty sure I could stay busy doing the hunting and fishing thing all year long, especially if I had enough $$$ to just pay others to do chores around the house.

It'll be hard to top last years results. I look forward to trying though!

Baggem up buddy! You're giving me the itch to get back down there. It'll be tournament time before we know it!

The only items I saw that interested me were the $60 inflatable life vests and $300 for Vortex Viper HD 10x42 binoculars. One is kind of a fishing item.....
-
So crap makes a fishery better? I figured that would do more harm than good.
-
So what makes LoZ more fertile? What exactly does that even mean? The point @fishinwrench made about the big boats keeping a lot of the fishing pressure reduced for half the year sounds the most plausible to me. Truman gives up some nice fish but it still doesn't seem to compare to LoZ overall which also makes me think that wrenches reasonings hold the most water.
-
LoZ gets hit harder than TRL and it still produces way more big bass than TRL. What's the difference besides LoZ has way more docks? Do all those docks really protect that many big bass?
-
It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the high fuel prices made people start selling all those boats they bought over the past few years. I'm always up for a bargain.....
-
Let them haul it to a processor and pay to have it taken care of. It's not your problem. I think processors charge $100-150 per deer depending on location.

Here we go.....

Took a long time friend and his son out and his boy got his first deer. I was supposed to take a nephew but they had bad grades so parents wouldn’t let them hunt. Keep getting error while trying to upload pic off of phone. Will have to try later on PC.
-
Definitely a river redhorse then. Good eating!
-
Net is covering the tail so I can't really see if it has the red fins. River redhorse have the red fins, but a golden redhorse looks very similar without the red fins. I'd guess it's a river though simply due to it's size. It would be a state record if it were a golden. I gigged a 12 pound river red horse on the Bourbeuse a few years ago. It surprised me when I got it in the boat because I just assumed it was a grass carp when I stuck it. My 12# river redhorse from the Bourbeuse Golden Redhorse River Redhorse

Elk hunting doesn't sound like a bad excuse to me!

I'm out for the second weekend. I'll be in NOMO helping guide mobility impaired hunters for slick heads during the antlerless portion of rifle season that weekend. One of these days I'll make another one.
-
That's not longer true. @JestersHK will run to Arkansas after every Taney trip to stock up on it.
-
Easy fix to that. Scale and fillet down to the tail, but don't cut through the skin at the tail. Do the other side the same way and then snip the spin off near the tail. You'll have two fillets still attached along with the tail. Call them perch wings.

I saw on Anglers in Action Facebook page that the angler said he caught it on a white pencil popper that morning. FB is down right now so I can't pull it up to verify that.
