    What's Cooking?

Liked it really well. I have never tried it. Brad brought it down, left me with another bottle. At 11 percent all I needed was one. Kind or reminded me of a quad.
  5. Outstanding outing Jeff! Well done buddy.

    What's Cooking?

Three days meals from a four day visit from friends. Day one carnitas Day three prime rib, Day four today for the new year crappie! Between all these meals was so many snacks and Christmas candy treats. If you ever visit and go home hungry from here it's your fault.
  7. Way to go dude! Keep that recovery going. Thanks for posting that Daryk.
  8. I'll bite depending on deadline date and how many I have to tie.😀

    What's Brewing?

Fair trade for fruit cake 🤣
  10. If we have a normal Spring Carl, I will try to help you. That or deliver fish for you to clean 🤪. Would rather you catch your own. Might need you to fill out paperwork with lawyer to keep anything I tell you top secret and under your hat.
  11. I have caught in two places. I will look back in my notes. Like @Quillback said timing is the key. Big deep rivers and lakes until the spawning run. We have caught a couple each. There is only one lake in Montana you can legally fish and take one. Anywhere else you are caught trying to catch one you are in trouble. Incidental catch and release it happens but you had better get a quick picture and get it back in the water and not really share or brag in public. Years ago there was guys trying to and catching them in a river in Montana and posting on you tube. They got caught. WE incidentally caught some in Grave Creek. In the summer juveniles born in the creeks spend a couple years in the spawning grounds before dropping back to lakes or big rivers. We even caught those on drys and hoppers. Grave creek is close to the Canadian border. Camping along it. The other two we caught were in Idaho I think. Will look back but again in thin, skinny water we like to fish. Juveniles again but legal to target no keep deal. Into our Western native challenge.

  13. Mic I have caught so many fish on that nymph. In ponds many nice bass, my biggest grass carp was caught on one in the river. I was throwing in front of the school. The water was clear, and you see them track and chase the fly. I tied in various colors. Chartreuse, Rusty and even black. You will like them.
  14. Whut? You might have to moderate yourself Jeff! I'm gonna tell @Terrierman
  15. Good luck if you get to go. Make sure it's fishing and not noodling.

    Spoonbill

It has been many moons since I ate spoonbill. Let's see I am not sure when it first opened again after Truman Lake was built. I am guessing mid 80s maybe? I was there trying and caught some. Brought them home and cleaned to the best of my ability not knowing what I was doing. I do remember it was fatty and lots or red meat. By the time I got butchered what was left wasn't much. We fried some fresh and found it ok. What was good though was what my mom did with it. She brined it and smoked in a little chief smoker. During the smoking process the oil/fat/grease ran out of the meat. This was very good stuff. At that time, I was still an apprentice lineman. I took it to work and shared with the lineman and foreman on the truck. They were all over it and each day I brought it disappeared quickly. I think it's just a fatty fish like a big catfish and white bass. You have to get all the red out and fatty looking parts. Some fats get rancid with age. Let's use white bass as an example. Cleaned well it is really good fresh. Freeze it and you have to use it pretty quickly or it will get strong. Even crappie can get strong. I have learned eat your fish fresh or frozen really quick. Learned that many years ago when being a young fisher person we would try to always keep our legal possession limit in the freezer. No need to do that eat those fish fresh or gift to someone that does not fish.
