  1. I have tried to keep up with the fair tax and flat tax proposal and after reading every one of them even a flat tax of 15% would increase my tax load quite a bit. I believe people who think these are good ideas haven't checked what their tax will be. My Wife and I have income from pension and social security are over age 70 and used standard deductions and our federal income tax was just under $4,000 but under a 15% flat tax it would be $10,500 an increase of SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED dollars. I'm not a financial wizard but I was able to retire at age 56 and live, I believe, a rather comfortable lifestyle. It might also be noted that someone who makes less and who now pays a very small amount or no federal income tax would have to pay 15% on there income but for a couple making a million dollars, there tax would be lowered by over $170,000.00. It kind of sounds like the flat tax supporters are in a "hate people who work for a living" mode.
  2. Glad your back, we need more like you on the rivers.
  3. Did he explain the pardon for the guy who then went and murdered the 4 police officers in the northwest
  4. And if a golfer upsets his wife ......9 irons hurt a lot more than a 5wt rod.......just ask you know who
  5. Sounds like he got stabbed in the back. Now you know why I have no respect for any law enforcement in the state of Missouri or Arkansas. Don't give up Smalliebigs take a little time , think it over and get back here We need people who can channel there righteous indignation into positive action. Don't let the $%^&#@s win.
  6. A gar looks like a gar and is scary looking and a pickerel resembles a northern and is not scary looking............. Yellow has always been a good Smallmouth color as a matter of fact a well known Ozark artist about 50 or 60 years ago painted a jumping Smallmouth with a yellow hair jig in its jaw..............or maybe about 30 years ago........sorry
  7. JimG One tip when wading some times when the hole looks to deep to wade the shallow water will follow the bottom out to the middle of the stream or even over to the far bank. If this is the case remember on your way back down and get back before dark. Some times though you just run out of shallow water...........that's when you go home and buy a canoe.
  8. It all depends on who you are "sitting on the couch" with and what your definition of "sitting on the couch" is.........I think
  9. I noticed Churchill never turned down a penny of aid both before during and after the war that was raised by NEW taxes on Americans.
  10. Smalliebigs is right , when I had my place on the Big Piney and fishing was slow I would use my hill billy fish finder to locate the fish, a mask and snorkel, and 2 things always amazed me the number of quality fish in that hole that I could not get to bite and how once I got below the surface how close I could get to them without spooking them.........Until we start treating fish poaching as we do deer poaching we never will have the quality smallmouth fishing that that the rivers are capable of producing.
  11. Looks like a good day good.........
  12. I apologize to the MDC for my negative opinions. Mea culpa when I am wrong I am wrong and in this case I am glad to be wrong.......

  14. That's why I don't do hives. My reaction when stung was not as bad as yours but I decided I could buy local honey easier than visiting the Doctor. Now, if I was only allergic to cut grass.
  15. So a guy on face book brags he's taking fish and lots of them post pictures and the MDC as usual can't or wont do anything?
  16. I would recommend you tune into KDHX 88.1 FM in ST L if you can't get it on your radio you can get it in the internet at there website. They have streaming and archives........Sat morning at 11:00 AM and noon on Sunday. Also a lot of Bluegrass on you tube including Big Smith who was my favorite.......I actually paid money to see them play.
  17. That's great to hear, after I get my back repaired I'll put that on my list of places I want to fish one more time. That always produced more fish than I thought would be possible but back then there was really good fishing in a lot of the city parks. I had a shift were I got off work at 7AM and would be fishing in Forest Park I used the Forest Park expressway going home and I would exit where the drainage stream dumped into the big sewer drain and fish my way upstream. It seemed like the winter season produced the best bass fishing back then a 1/16 oz. Purple Beetle spin or a 1/8 OZ. Mepps bare hook spinner produced some nice fish not many over 4lbs but not bad for just a 1/2 block detour on the way home. I aqlso found that when you found the fish if the weather didn't change you could stay on the fish every day they never moved much there. We also found in the ponds fishing the shade was the key to catching fish. Wish I could be up there fishing again!
  18. Ya , I believe Flysmallie is right and I like it to weigh a 1/2oz and made by Stan Sloan's company it's called the Zorro Rattlin Agravator and the black blade would be my choice also and I really like to stop that bait where there is structure drop off or heavy cover and let it helicopter on a tight line. That short arm has been catching largemouth for me since the 1960's when I used Virgil Wards Tarantula and Scorpion short arm spinner baits. I'm glad you posted this I had forgotten how much fun it is to drop that bait in the dark and feel the blade turning and all of a sudden you feel no vibration or something, as Billy Westmoreland used to say, "nock the fire out of it". It's the one bait I always use heavy line on because usually you are you are pulling fish out of heavy cover in the dark and there is no way I'm going to reach in a dark brushpile and try to lip a fish in the dark ever again.......I also like to use a short arm for smallies I don't know why I just seem to do better.
  19. More! Great photos now I know where all my butterflies are My cone flowers are just starting to bloom out
  20. My grandpa told me Never play poker with a guy called Pop Never eat at a place called Mom's and when fishing... a point is a point is a point etc No, I think it was Jerry Mckinnis or Gadabout Gattis, but I have fished points everywhere I have fished and they have held fish so that is where I usually start and then move to islands ledges etc.
  21. YA walmart drops paula but they still have no problem selling garbage made in Godless Communist Red China because of who, I had to for a short time, wear a green uniform and carry a rifle to protect the American business from and now the American business is selling is selling out to the same Godless Communist Red China who I had to...........wait I said that already
  22. Have they ever reopened all of Forest Parks water to fishing or is it still just limited to a couple of ponds? We were going to spend a couple of extra days after my wifes 50th high school reunion in 2010 in St Louis and fish the park as we hadn't fished it in about 30 year and we were told no. The pond in front of the Art Museum used to holm a lot of large mouth along the rock wall banks and the spillways used be productive in the drainage ditches.
  23. We don't do much veggies anymore most grown in containers. Lost our tomatoes weren't growing and turning yellow replaced them when we got back from Iowa a couple of weeks ago (super sweet cherry) and they are doing great. Banana and gypsy peppers are doing great and we had our best strawberries and snow and sugar snap peas are doing well. I have no idea why things went the way they did I couldn't believe how well the peppers did with the cold wet weather we had. I just composted what was left of an average lettuce crop this morning. I think between my back and age I might be done farming. Na I'll get my back surgery over the winter and be back at it again next year. Just glad we have farmers markets.
