Seth Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Try PBJ first. If that one isn't working, then try PBJ. Lastly, if they still aren't biting PBJ, try another PBJ. I bought some Swingoil NED heads with the wire hook keeper as backups for when I forget the super glue. I've been using them for the past few years more often than not because it seems my glue is always dried up when I actually do remember it. It's not as good as using super glue, but it holds the bait in place a lot better than with no hook keeper. Daryk Campbell Sr, crazy4fishin and snagged in outlet 3 2 1

I started out using the Shroomz because that's what I could find. After hearing about Dave's, and attending his class a couple of years ago, I bought a bunch of his. Dave's are far superior in my opinion, but also hard to find since I don't live anywhere close to Springfield and with his wife's health issue, I don't know when he will be back in productiin. Therefore I will be forced to go back to the Shroomz head, but I plan to make a modification to see if that reduces the frustration. The Shroomz has a little wire keeper to hold the Zinker Z in place. After a fish or two, the bait will get pushed up and twisted on that wire keeper. It can be a pain to get the bait back in the proper position so it runs straight. I plan to either pinch it down or remove it and then glue the Zinker Z in place. With Dave's the Zinker Z gets twisted too, but it is simple to straighten the Zinker Z out. Based on advice I learned on this forum, I got one of those small tackle boxes with the rust inhibitors so I could make up some baits ahead of time. That has worked exceptionally well with Dave's jigheads. I would never try it with the Shroomz. Those light wire hooks will rust out in nothing flat. Not sure what the difference is in the steel used between the Shroomz and Dave's, but it is significant. If I go fishing with a Shroomz and store my rod in the rod box, in less than a week that hook has rusted to the point where you can easily break the hook shank. I've done the same with Dave's and it is still good to go after months of being stored. I haven't noticed that corrosion problem with the z-man heads but I don't keep any rigged up except the one on a rod. Guess I need to take a better look at it. Thanks for the idea on the twist.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Orange/green and PBJ. Gorilla glue solved the problem of dried up glue I suffered with using the Loctite. I've been using the same bottle of GG for almost a year. Loctite was only good for one application and then it was shot.
Flysmallie Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I've been trying not to take any super glue. Figure I'll just glue my hand to a rod or the canoe or something.

A needle nose pliers takes them off pretty quickly and it makes them much more usable with just a drop of super glue. I haven't had the rusting issue with the Zman hooks. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Smalls21 Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I have been using the Bass Pro Shroom heads as a backup to Super Dave's heads, just have to trim the collar
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I use a fairly light wire eagle claw hook with the ones i make and they seem to do great, ive never had a fish straighten them out, forum member Ketchup caught a 5lber on one with no problem. I use a Flambeau zrust box and also put those inhibitor strips in and i can leave neds rigged up now and they dont rust anymore. I use the gel super glue and immediately after i use it i set the bottle upright for a few minutes or put it in a cup holder and i have no problems with it drying up anymore
Quillback Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 In lieu of Dave's heads, I have been using these. Stout, very sharp hook, fiber weed guard. Heads are unpainted, I touch them up with a black sharpie. And they work very well, been using them this year quite a bit. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Hayabusa_Baby_Shooting_Ball_Football_Jig_4pk/descpage-HSBFBJ.html o2bnMO 1
