Quillback Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I've never heard of this TWIC deal, thanks for the education. Who do you make the check out to when you get or renew the TWIC? I hope it's not the US Treasury, because if it is, that money goes into the giant black hole that is our US government. So there would be no seperate budget for TWIC offices, they'd have to be funded out of the discretionary budget which is basically in the hands of Congress.
duckydoty Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I had to have Twic card renewed in April in order to renew my Western Alaska license and in order to upgrade to a full domestic license. I did the 3 year renewal because of hearing about the possibility of doing away with the card. Sure is a lot of extra red tape to step through and a bunch of cash to put up for nothing in return. fishinwrench Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Well by all means suit yourself. If you think you need it then I'm sure they'll gladly take your money for it.
Champ188 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 My concern, is where is all this Dough going? Yo Mama (the "first lady" to use the term very loosely) is socking it away for another round-the-world vacation trip on Air Force One.
bfishn Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 The money's an easy trace, if you write a check it goes to the folks at MorphoTrustUSA; http://www.morphotrust.com/ An unspecified, but presumably sizable slice of a TWIC fee is designated for the FBI for "performing a fingerprint-based criminal history records information (CHRI) check". They subsequently farm out the job to Morpho. I can't dance like I used to.
fishingaddiction Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 This process is just one more cluster that is our government. Making tons of money, broken worn out equipment and don't hire enough people to take care of the citizens who need this service. This is just one of many examples of why this country is broke. Something has to change! Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
hknfsh Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 This may seem trivial but I get peeved with the launch fees. Always wonder where that goes or who just pockets it. Be nice if it could go towards putting in lights around and over the tops of the ramps. That stupid single one at Aunts Creek hangs away from the ramp. What idiot hung that up ?!!?
Feathers and Fins Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Bill, there is so much waste and taxation in the Government it will make you throw-up if you looked it all up! I learned about government waste and taxation decades ago when living in Cali. They hit us first with the ( Ocean Enhancement stamp ) it was designed to help offset the cost of gillnetters when they passed the law banning gillnetting, WHY? everyone knows how devastating they are be like making everyone with a drivers license pay a special fee to bar owners to have a breathalyzer used on a person before they could leave it. Next was the ( Upland bird stamp ) suppose to help restore upland bird habitat lmfao and yet they keep allowing building on that habitat and encroachment on it by a host of things. And on to my Favorite ( second rod stamp ) Had to have it to use two rods while fishing. Until PEOPLE stand up and start taking the power from government and telling it NO we will continue to see these false taxes and that is all they are a tax that does nothing but line someones political pocket. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
fishinwrench Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I think alot of the fees they assess to things like licenses and registrations are voluntary for the most part. Folks are scared that they might get in trouble so they just pay it for piece of mind, but how often do you hear about anyone actually being checked or punished for it? It's head-game thuggery. Kinda like the titling and registration of small outboards. In all my years guess how many times I have heard of anyone being cited for operating an unregistered outboard? Zero. Never. But if you buy a used 4-70hp motor you'll go right up and pay sales tax and registering fees on that little SOB everytime, then stick that NEW little white square right on top of the old one. Why? Outboard registration is a one time thing..... so who is to say it isn't BORROWED? No crime against borrowing an outboard is there? Nothing on the boat registration says WHICH outboard is to be attached to it. It's a bulls#!t fee that everyone just voluntarily accepts and pays, and the state just LOVES that kinda stuff. LOL Why aren't Dirt Bikes and bicycles required to be registered? Prolly won't be long.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 1, 2014 Root Admin Posted February 1, 2014 MWP does check our boat registrations occasionally... not in the last few years though. And they used to on the lake itself when they were separate water patrol. Probably not anymore. USCG Auxiliary has offered to come and inspect our boats for registration and safety this spring. Give us a sticker if we pass. It's voluntary and free.
