Fish24/7 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 too bad for the beach swimmers, hope they wear shoes
Old plug Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 The thing about zebra mussles is. they attach themselves to things with the sharp edges of the shell sticking out. I have had tiny cuts on my hand from removing small rocks I snagged off the bottom when jigging a spoon. I would think the arch of the foot could get chewed up pretty good. This Ipad is a pain exept for flight simualtor games. With a Ipad the the Ipad itself becomes the stick. You have both banking and elevation control. The best two I found are Dogfight and Gunship 111 that has rudder control as well. Spend a lot of time doing that. I just pass by thru here now and then.
mojorig Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Yes, they were first found in Bull Shoals Lake on Sept. 13, 2007 in the Lead Hill area. At this point, we have found them all over the lake. They are nowhere near as thick down the lake as they are above the Lead Hill area. Wayne SW/MO Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I'm pretty certain there was a patch of them in the Pothole area in '07. There was one particuler area that even briad would part if a fish took you there. It wasn't pleasant, you would be fighting a fish and suddenly your line would go slack without warning. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Mike Worley Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Zebra mussels were the reason given for closing the Pot Shoals net pens. I have caught them on jigging spoons and on bottom bouncers. All over Bull Shoals lake but they were really thick from about Peel all the way up the lake.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Do the fish eat them? I noticed the Carp and Drum are thick in the Diamond city area this year diving, Also noticed a lot bigger smallmouth than ever before. And tons of Zebra muscles are cracked open laying on the bottom
Ham Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Do the fish eat them? I noticed the Carp and Drum are thick in the Diamond city area this year diving, Also noticed a lot bigger smallmouth than ever before. And tons of Zebra muscles are cracked open laying on the bottom That''s an interesting observation from a diver. Almost all the drum I've caught have been from Big Creek and up. Old plug Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Several species of fish eat them and drum and blue catfish feed heavily on them acording to the MDC. That may or may not be a good thing. Zenra mussels feed by filtering water. Any bad stuff that in in the water is retained in the mussels. When the fish feed on the mussels they infake intake a concentrate of those things. I cannot help but wonder if that had something to do with the almost instant disapearance of the big blues on LOZ. I do not see any of the monster drum and buffalo I used to have coming by my dock this past couple of uears.
fishinwrench Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I would think that fish who depended much on ZM for their diet would eventually starve themselves to death.
Old plug Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Wremch I would think so. But according to MDC they feed heavily on them but did not mention how much heavily comprised of their oversll diet. In other words they probably do not kbow. But if there is bad stuff present and it builds up in the shell or anywhere else I would think fish eating these things would get a concentrate of that stiff. It just makes me wonder because the blues went down so fast.
