Feathers and Fins Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Phil this site does more than you can imagine. The stripers earlier this year were in a area most would not think to look. I posted it after a few days of letting close friends in on it. I went out the Saturday after I posted (which was the next day) There had to be 40 boats in the area including guides. The week leading up to it no one was fishing it in fact they were running right over the area and not even paying attention to it. Its not the first time either I have seen it happen. WITHOUT A DOUBT, OAF has been a blessing to me and a lot of others. I've learned a lot about local fishing oppurtunites and met some wonderful people that I am not likely to have met otherwise. I do believe that we all need to be helpful and friendly, but maybe reduce the details about specific location to prevent a hoard of anglers on those specific locations. grizwilson 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Terrierman Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I just plain old don't talk about locations on the internet, at all. But since I'm not a very good fisherman and don't know any good places to catch fish, nobody loses. grizwilson and Ham 2
mjk86 Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I think the specific details are ok depending on how they are presented. Ive found a few things......1.) Most people cannot replicate your success no matter how specific the information....theyll try for an hour then quit. 2.) The where, when, and with what info changes daily, sometimes hourly....obviously that depends on the species targeted, but usually its moot to go where someone else was catchin em yesterday. 3.) Heavily pressured waters hold few secrets. For example....I fish Busch wildlife in st louis frequently....great fishery, but giving up spots there wont hurt anything. In fact, i post EXACTLY how to fill the boat with crappie there (its not difficult), in hopes that fewer fish will equal bigger fish. All that said, you just need to be careful about the info you post and determine if you consider that place "special". Like Ham mentioned....a small creek that holds a few smallies....terrible idea to post that cuz a few people can decimate the area. Posting about catching fish off point seven from lake x during this time of year, not gonna hurt anything. This is a great site, ive learned so much since I joined its rediculous and if i can share just a bit of what ive learned than ill be happy. I think the overall benefit of this site far outweighs the few jerks looking to steal a spot. rangerman 1
inshore Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 capndan couldn't agree with you more. I don't post a lot in the winter for sure because I don't fish that much in the winter. Another thing is I hate trolling because it bores me to death but agree it is a very effective way to cover water and catch fish. been using flickers for years casting on light braid and this seems to work for me. I don't crappie fish a lot except in the spring and then use a darter head with swimming minnow or trees and brushpiles on a adjustable bobber. Do enjoy the post and agree sometimes more info is given out then needed. Just remember anyone with a computer can pull up Ozark anglers and read what's posted. Keep up the posting but general info rather than specific could be better. If not charge them a guide fee.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 15, 2015 Root Admin Posted January 15, 2015 Just have to be smart about it.... and do what you can to educate - give back - when you can. You don't have to give up "spots" to contribute. I do respect anybody decision to not post spots. i would love to see more reports though - instructional reports - WITHOUT including spots. I am thankful for everyone that does post. Period.
Members Mr. Smallfish Posted January 15, 2015 Members Posted January 15, 2015 If I ever post a spot that I've been fishing, you'll probably want to mark that spot as somewhere you should skip. As a matter of fact, if I told you some spots that I haven't fished, there's a pretty good chance that the fish are right there.
rangerman Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Wow this is getting unbelievable- first post about people trolling information and not posting anything. Next crab about the guys who want to post about their info. Some of you people are unbelievable. I will continue posting my reports as I have. Just because I post my techniques doesn't mean someone can go out and duplicate it to the tee and have the same results . And In regards to crappie and such. Do you think you are fishing in an aquarium. These fish move and move constantly. In regards to flicker shads sorry your not the first, I have some originals. Good god, some need to get a life or quit posting... For me business as usual and when I get down I will report. Off my soapbox and have a good day. Champ188 1
rangerman Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Sorry to offend anyone if I did. There have been times when a certain topic or post got under my skin and I quit checking the forum for a couple of weeks. DD sorry a thread about your successful day got hijacked.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Rangerman nailed it.
